Wednesday Recap
European champions Chelsea cruised to a compelling victory on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Maccabi Tel Aviv 3-0 at the club's Cobham training complex. Two goals from Kasey Palmer and an additional strike by Tammy Abraham wrapped up three points for the Blues as the heaven's opened, with heavy rain making conditions difficult.

Palmer grabbed the opener midway through the first half, following on from his hat-trick for the under-21s last week. The striker grabbed his second of the match immediately after the break, converting Dujon Sterling’s low cross from the right.
Palmer was denied his hat-trick after vigilant defending from the visitors, leaving Abraham to wrap up the points after 78 minutes, expertly rounding Tel Aviv goalkeeper Haviv Ohayon.
Chelsea Youth highlighted the audacity of Palmer, who once again showed his incredible potential and flair:
Arsenal also joined Chelsea with a relaxing day at the office, as they beat hosts Dinamo Zagreb in Croatia. Thierry Henry was involved with the Gunners' preparation before their 2-0 victory, as noted by Arsenal Latest 24:
The young guns took the lead shortly before the break after a goal from youngster Chris Willock. The tie was put to bed midway through the second half, with a Ben Sheaf penalty settling the scoreline.
In Wednesday's other matches, Dynamo Kyiv had to come back from a goal down at home to Portuguese giants Porto, winning their match, 2-1. Jorge gave his side the lead in the opening moments of the first half, and his side almost took the lead into the break.
However, a goal from Rostyslav Taranukha levelled proceedings in the 43rd minute, giving the home side hope of a full revival. That was met in the second half, as 17-year-old Yevhenii Smyrnyi scored the vital winner 10 minutes from time.
Olympiakos' kids took a well earned 1-0 win over German giants Bayern Munich, with a penalty separating the sides on Wednesday. Captain Manolis Saliakas stepped up to take the spot-kick in the final throes of the match to give his team a famous scalp.
Lyon were in fine form for their trip to Gent, comfortably beating their Belgian hosts, 3-0. Two goals from the impressive Romain Del Castillo and one from the clinical Florian Ankoue gave the French side an opening day win. Valencia beat Zenit in their clash to join Lyon at the top of the group, with goals from Carlos Soler Barragan and Rafael Mir Vicente sealing the three points.

Bayer Leverkusen sneaked past visitors BATE Borisov late in their tie, attaining a 1-0 victory over their opponents. German-born Benjamin Henrichs' effort was enough for the home side to score after 72 minutes. It was a disappointing afternoon in Italy, as Roma and Barca played out a goalless game. The results leave Leverkusen clear at the top of Group E.
This was exactly the kind of start Chelsea required after a season of dominance last term, and they should glide through the opening group fixtures with ease.
Kyiv have the quality to challenge the Blues for top spot, but with the superior ability of the west London club, last year's winners will be looking for a clean sweep of wins during the group phase.
However, Arsenal's youngsters showed their pedigree in Zagreb, and their attention to youth could see them challenge their derby rivals for Europe's top prize.
