WWE's Best and Worst Booking Decisions for the Week of September 7
As usual, WWE matched good with bad when it came to booking decisions this past week en route to Night of Champions. Unfortunately, some of the poorer booking decisions are affecting some of WWE's biggest storylines.
Worst: Sting Acts Silly, Destroys Statue
Sting's usage continues to stand out as a trouble spot. As I mentioned on the PodNasty Wrestling Podcast, with every passing week, the character quickly shifts from iconic dark crow to loony joker. Raw's conclusion saw Sting animatedly destroy Seth Rollins' statue. The build toward Rollins' statue being destroyed skewed toward comedy and didn't seem like the best choice to garner serious interest in a WWE Championship match.

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
Worst: Ambrose and Reigns MIA During Attack of Randy Orton
Raw also featured Randy Orton being attacked by the Wyatt Family. Prior to the attack, Orton was seen conversing with Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns. However, the pair was nowhere to be found during the three-on-one attack.
With no explanation, or even a simple mention, as to why the two babyfaces did not come to Orton's aid against their rivals, both Ambrose and Reigns came off as cowards who want no part of Braun Strowman. This is great for Strowman but bad for diet Shield.
Best: The Buildup to Nikki Bella vs. Charlotte
One element of Raw that contained some good, surprisingly, was the Divas Division. WWE seems to be slowly moving away from the sloppy format of grouping Divas together, instead focusing on singular rivalries. Through the Bellatron, WWE has quietly built a juicy storyline heading into a Divas Championship match between Charlotte and Nikki Bella.
Fans are now not only invested in a possible title change, but also will be counting down to see if Nikki Bella will break AJ Lee's record as the longest-reigning Divas champion.
If that wasn't enough drama, the lingering possibility of Paige turning on Charlotte remains, as Paige was noticeably frustrated after failing to become the No. 1 Contender during the Beat the Clock challenge.
Best: Kevin Owens vs. Ryback?
Also a bright spot was the decision to pair Kevin Owens with Ryback for a potential Intercontinental Championship match. WWE needs to be careful not to book Owens in too many feuds too early—that's what's currently plaguing Ambrose and Reigns at the moment—but being a pugnacious bully is basically Owens' character.
Best: Jimmy Uso Joins Ambrose and Reigns
Jimmy Uso's character has been reduced to more of a commentator since a shoulder injury to his brother, but he came from behind the desk to team with Reigns and Ambrose on SmackDown.
This was great use of Uso, as it added life to a dreary Ambrose-Reigns alliance that seems to be going through the motions. Although Uso was also pummeled by the Wyatts, at least Reigns and Ambrose showed concern this time around.
Best: Cosmic Wasteland vs. The Red Dragons Neville and the Lucha Dragons
Another smart alliance decision occurred in the ongoing Stardust-Neville feud. Stardust has joined up with the Ascension, who is in need of a purpose, while Neville came to the aid of the Lucha Dragons.
A potential six-man tag team match between these two teams could be interesting, and with so many three-man stables popping up, WWE may want to consider bringing back the six-man tag team titles. That would be a great booking decision.
