WWE SmackDown Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from September 10

Erik BeastonSep 11, 2015

Nikki Bella and Charlotte may be stealing headlines for their huge WWE Divas Championship match slated for the September 14 episode of Raw, but Thursday night, Paige and Sasha Banks stole the show with an intense brawl that elevated their budding rivalry past Bella's chase of history in terms of intrigue and excitement.

Paige, who has dominated the Divas division for the last year, has suddenly found herself an adversary she has not been able to defeat in Banks, who has no problem constantly reminding her of it. The aggression that the Brit brought to the match helped the audience connect with the story unfolding before them.

The brawl added another layer to the story, Paige's frustration boiling over to the point that she was more concerned with hurting the former NXT women's champion than beating her.

WWE Creative does not deserve much credit when it comes to the booking of the Divas as of late, but here the writers have put together a secondary feud within the division that allows two of the most talented workers on the women's roster to shine without needing the championship to be the centerpiece of their story.

It is good, old-fashioned wrestling booking that has worked for decades because of its simplicity and will continue to for that same reason.

Paige and Sasha were the biggest winners of the night, their segment drawing some of the biggest reactions of the entire show. But they were not the only ones.

Several other Superstars had a very solid night on what amounted to the best episode of SmackDown in weeks. Who were they, and which performers failed to maintain momentum as Night of Champions approaches?

Let's take a look.

Winner: The Big Show

The World's Largest Athlete is a Superstar who has been under a great deal of scrutiny over the last year, his performances lethargic and the direction of his character changing about as often as a grown man changes his underwear.

Chants of "please retire" greeted him in arenas across the country. But something interesting has happened as of late, and that is another tweak in the character that will ultimately help rather than hurt. Big Show has taken umbrage with those chants and has turned his frustration and anger on any and all in front of him.

After pummeling both Cesaro and The Miz on Raw, he continued to unleash his wrath on the roster by attacking Ryback in the middle of the intercontinental champion's lumberjack match against Seth Rollins. He was forced up the ramp by numerous babyfaces but did not look intimidated in the least, defiantly telling them, "I know every one of you," as if he plans to pay them all back.

It is an interesting development for a Superstar who was left creatively dead months ago. Now a big, nasty, mean giant who has been awakened by those questioning his place in the industry at this point in his career, it should be interesting to see what Big Show does next and who the unfortunate soul will be that finds himself on the receiving end of his KO Punch.

Losers: The Dudley Boyz

Prior to SmackDown, WWE Creative had done a phenomenal job of preserving the star power of Bubba Ray and D-Von Dudley, treating the team like the legends they are. They injected the tag team division with much-needed energy but have not been overexposed or treated as just another team.

That is, until this week's SmackDown, where the team was left off the show except for the main event, where they joined the rest of the roster in a lumberjack match between Ryback and Seth Rollins.

It was disappointing to see the brothers from different mothers tossed into the mix rather than being saved for something more important or left off the show completely.

At a time when WWE is in need of as many legitimate stars as it can get, the company should take the time to preserve the star power of a team such as the Dudley Boyz rather than give fans even the slightest hint that they are just like everyone else.

Winner: Sheamus

The Celtic Warrior and current Money in the Bank winner is far more effective in the role of the guy who will eventually cash in, who constantly reminds both fans and the WWE world heavyweight champion that he is going to do so, than the guy who loses to Randy Orton in meaningless matches.

Monday night, Sheamus began his crusade to get into the head of Seth Rollins, but The Viper defeated him in a match, killing his credibility.

Thursday, though, WWE kept him out of the ring and instead simply had him confront Rollins backstage and casually remind him that he has the briefcase and that he can cash in on him at any time.

Considering Rollins had the same opportunity a year earlier, and did the same every opportunity he got, it is a nice reversal of fortunes.

Sheamus will benefit far more from booking the likes of which he got on SmackDown as opposed to being the whipping boy for other Superstars in higher positions than him.
