England V Australia, 4th ODI: Date, Time, Live Stream, TV Info and Preview

Rob LancasterSep 9, 2015

Hosts England take on Australia in the fourth one-day international on Friday knowing they simply have to win to keep the series alive.

Eoin Morgan’s side got off the mark in the series at the third time of asking on Tuesday, though their 93-run win in a day-nighter at Old Trafford, Manchester, still leaves them trailing 2-1 with two to play.

The teams have now moved across the Pennines to Yorkshire, with Friday’s fixture taking place at Headingley in Leeds.

Australia still know they just have to win one of the two remaining games to finish what has been a long, arduous tour on a high note.

Date: Friday, September 11, 2015

Time: 10:30 a.m. (local) / 5:30 a.m. (ET)

Venue: Headingley, Leeds, England

Live Stream and TV Info: Sky Sports (UK), Nine Network (Australia), SKY Sport (New Zealand), SuperSport (South Africa), STAR Sport (India), NowTV (UK Streaming Service)

Weather: Per BBC Weather, the forecast suggests cloud with short spells of sun. There is a small chance of rain early in the afternoon, but nothing that should have a major impact.

Overview

It is tough to fathom if the third ODI result was down to England's sudden excellence or more to do with Australia coming off the boil.

The home side were certainly impressive—James Taylor registered the first century of the series, with his knock of 101 allowing the rest of his batting colleagues to contribute around him.

Although they did not take early wickets with the ball, an area that has been a concern for Morgan's men throughout the summer, they did manage to consistently make breakthroughs to undermine Australia's reply.

Australia found the spin combination of Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid particularly difficult to handle on a dry surface. The pair combined to take five for 73 from their 20 overs.

They were helped out by some excellent work in the field, which was another pivotal factor in England's success.

Steven Finn held on to a stunning one-handed catch at mid-wicket to dismiss visiting captain Steve Smith for 25 off Rashid’s bowling, while Jason Roy's juggling act in the deep made sure Ali accounted for the recalled Ashton Agar when he had just five to his name.

Headingley, however, is unlikely to offer quite the same level of assistance to the slow bowlers, particularly with Friday's fixture starting at 10:30 a.m. local time.

With that in mind, England will have to consider whether they need to alter a winning XI.

Seam-bowling all-rounder Chris Woakes has yet to take a wicket in the series and, although they have done a decent job with the ball, all-rounders Ali and Ben Stokes average just 8.66 and 12.33 respectively with the bat in the series.

Australia, meanwhile, have seen their best side decimated by injuries.

Opening batsman David Warner, all-rounder Shane Watson and pace bowler Nathan Coulter-Nile helped the visitors triumph in the opening two games, but now the trio are stuck on the sidelines.

The longevity of the trip may also be getting to Mitchell Starc. The joint-leading wicket-taker at the Cricket World Cup this year, left-arm paceman Starc has picked up only four scalps in three games in England and is going at an economy rate of 6.25 runs an over.

As for previous meetings at the venue, England and Australia split the eight matches they’ve played at the home of Yorkshire CCC, who were crowned county champions for the second season running on Wednesday, with both sides winning four apiece

The Ashes rivals have not played in Leeds in the 50-over format since 2005. England won on that occasion by nine wickets, with opening batsman Marcus Trescothick making an unbeaten 104.

Key players

England

James Taylor has seized his chance in the ODI team in the absence of the rested Joe Root. Batting at three in the order, the pint-sized right-hander has scored 193 runs at an average of 64.33.

Taylor is hoping that his performance at Old Trafford will also have impressed the selectors before they name a squad for the upcoming Test tour to the United Arab Emirates, where they will face Pakistan.

He said of his hopes of earning a Test recall, per George Dobell of ESPN Cricinfo, "I know we are going to be playing on similar wickets against good spin bowlers in the UAE, so this was nice little reminder of what I have to offer on a turning pitch where it wasn't easy to score off the slower bowlers."

Australia

With Coulter-Nile now back home and Starc looking a little jaded, Pat Cummins needs to step up and be the leader of Australia's seam attack.

He is currently the top wicket-taker in the series with eight at 19.25.

Australia will be loath to put too much pressure on Cummins, considering his injury issues in the past. But, right now, he looks fit and is definitely firing on all cylinders, regularly bowling at over 90 miles per hour.
