
Michael Brewer Injury: Updates on Virginia Tech QB's Shoulder and Return
Michael Brewer exited Virginia Tech's season opener against Ohio State with a broken collarbone that required surgery. He has not played since Week 1, and the team announced he has been ruled out for Friday's game against NC State.

Motley Given Start as Brewer Awaits Medical Clearance
Friday, Oct. 9
The team announced Brendan Motley would start Friday in Brewer's place. Hokies trainer Mike Goforth said the team is optimistic about Brewer's recovery, and while he was able to throw and participate in practice this week, he hasn't been medically cleared yet.
Mike Barber of the Richmond Times-Dispatch provided Goforth's Sept. 22 update regarding Brewer's progress:
"Michael is exactly two weeks post surgery and is progressing well. He is throwing and doing footwork drills and is staying active in the film room, weight room and training room. He displays a great attitude and work ethic and hopefully he will stay on target to return in 4-8 weeks from his original date of injury on Sept. 7.
"
