Kansas State Football Marching Band Apologizes for Offensive Halftime Show
The Kansas State marching band and Kansas State President Kirk H. Schulz apologized on Twitter for a halftime show that attempted to depict the Starship Enterprise battling Kansas' mascot, the Jayhawk, but instead was interpreted by some to resemble something a bit more lewd.
For the Win on Twitter showed the formation in question:
The band's director, Frank Tracz, apologized as well while displaying the formation chart on Facebook:
On Sept. 8, the university fined itself $5,000, suspended Tracz for the team's game against Kansas on Nov. 28 and required all halftime shows going forward must be approved by representatives from the office of student life and the athletic department, per Nick Sloan of Channel 41 in Manhattan.
Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby also issued a statement on Sept. 8:
"The actions of the marching band depicting the disintegration of a member institution's mascot was inconsistent with the principles and expectations of the Big 12 Sportsmanship and Ethical Conduct Policy. I appreciate the prompt actions of K-State President Kirk Schulz and Athletics Director John Currie in addressing this matter and accept the University's self-imposed penalties.
"
The incident in question took place at halftime during the team's 34-0 win over South Dakota on Saturday.
As if the Kansas and Kansas State rivalry needed any fuel, this latest incident will surely stoke the fire.
