Harry Kane Discusses Manchester United Interest, Tottenham Goal Drought and More

Gianni VerschuerenSep 4, 2015

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has dismissed rumours he could be looking for a move to Manchester United in the near future, while also revealing he isn't concerned with his scoring drought early in the 2015-16 campaign after talking to Alan Shearer.

As reported by the Manchester Evening News' James Robson, United manager Louis van Gaal wanted to move for the young England international during the summer, but Spurs chairman Daniel Levy had no interest in selling. Kane could have pushed for the move himself, but he had no intention of doing so, as he remains committed to Spurs:

"

I am a Tottenham boy. I have grown up with the club.

I know the club and I love the club. We have got a great team, a young team that is only going to get better and better.

I am happy. I am happy to be playing.

That is the most important thing for me this season to be playing week in week out and getting game time. We have a great manager and staff at Spurs and I can really see us just pushing on.

I am excited for the future. A new stadium as well.

The 22-year-old striker enjoyed a breakout season in 2014-15, scoring 21 Premier League goals in 28 starts, per WhoScored.com. Having spent the previous seasons out on loan or mostly on the bench, Kane's sudden emergence became one of the biggest stories of the year.

His scoring form followed him on international duty, where he managed to find the net against Lithuania minutes after making his debut.

The start of the 2015-16 season hasn't gone according to plan, however. Kane is yet to score in four Premier League matches, and as shared by WhoScored, it's not for a lack of trying:

Kane is fighting hard to overcome the label of “one-hit wonder,” and he revealed he spoke to former England striker Shearer about how to handle the pressure and overcome scoring droughts, via the Daily Mirror's Dave Kidd:

"

Alan Shearer’s a top man. We had good fun at the walking football event and it was good to talk to him.

We shared some things because obviously he’s been in the same sort of situation I am now and he gave me some good tips.

He said that you are going to go through games without scoring but he said the best strikers in the world just put it to the back of their mind and focus on the next chance - and that’s what I try to do.

It was great to hear that that’s what he went through sometimes and what he did about it. I aim to do the same and keep focused.

"

He also refused to point at the Euro under-21 tournament he played in during the summer as an excuse, saying he doesn't feel tired, and confirmed he still has plenty of confidence in his own abilities.

Shearer knows a thing or two about scoring droughts―the former Newcastle United star entered Euro 96 having failed to hit the target in 12 consecutive matches and proceeded to win the Golden Boot, via Kidd.

The Guardian's Barney Ronay has a suggestion for Kane, seeing how loan deals have worked out for him in the past:

In all seriousness, early struggles in 2015-16 for Kane shouldn't come as a surprise. Last season, he took the Premier League by storm, but this year, defences know what to expect. Christian Eriksen hasn't been fully fit, making it even easier for defenders to key in on Kane, and the Spurs star is still looking for his shooting touch.

Confidence is vital for strikers, and there's every chance he'll start banging in the goals once he gets that first one out of the way.

A meeting with football minnows San Marino on Saturday may be just what the doctor ordered for Kane.
