Manchester United Transfer News: Gareth Bale Hopes Crushed by David De Gea Saga

Gianni VerschuerenSep 2, 2015

The fallout from the failed transfer of David De Gea from Manchester United to Real Madrid continues to spread, as it now appears the ongoing row between both clubs means Los Blancos will not be dealing with the Red Devils in the future, ruling out a possible move for star forward Gareth Bale.

That's according to the Daily Star's Jeremy Cross, who shared comments from a senior United source who believes their chances of signing any Real players are over:

"

"I don't think they (Real Madrid) will be too keen to do business with us again considering the way this has gone."

[…] Real president Florentino Perez is understood to have told senior colleagues at the Bernabeu he is finished with United and will not deal with them ever again.

Perez has no intention of selling them Bale and even United accept the most recent feud between two of football's biggest clubs will ruin their chances of landing the Welsh superstar.

The two clubs have been involved in a public row since the deal for De Gea fell through on Monday, blaming each other because the required paperwork was not sent to La Liga and FIFA in time.

Both clubs related statements regarding the situation, pointing the finger at each other, and as reported by Bleacher Report UK's Sean Swaby, the feud has dominated national media in the past two days:

Much of the debate has focused on the futures of De Gea and current Real goalkeeper Keylor Navas, who was supposed to move to Old Trafford in the deal, and which club was at fault for the move falling through. Most pundits, including BBC Sport's Simon Stone, have tried looking at the situation from both perspectives:

But regardless of where De Gea ends up playing his football―he's set to become a free agent at the end of the season―it's becoming clear that the relationship between United and Real has soured tremendously in the span of just two days, and it could have major repercussions down the road.

Both rank among the biggest clubs in the world who chase similar targets on the transfer market and are part of a select group of clubs with the financial means to do business with each other. Just last summer, Angel Di Maria moved from the Bernabeu to Old Trafford in a record £60 million deal, per the Daily Express' Joe Short.

Apart from obvious local or historic rivals, massive clubs of this level tend to business with each other all the time, and should the bad blood that currently exists between the two continue into the future, the dynamic of the transfer market could change drastically.

Bale is but one example. The Wales international has enjoyed a solid start to the 2015-16 campaign, scoring two goals and adding an assist in two La Liga starts, per WhoScored.com. The 26-year-old is coming off a disappointing season in the Spanish capital, and should he fail to find success again this year, a transfer would become a realistic option.

There are only a handful of clubs in the world that would present a realistic destination, and one has to assume rivals Barcelona are not an option. It now seems the Red Devils could also be removed from the discussion, bringing an end to one of the most talked-about transfer links of the summer.

The De Gea debacle may lead to the birth of a new rivalry of epic proportions in Europe, and as shared by football journalist Liam, fans of the sport have to be begging for a Champions League clash between the two in the near future:

Whether De Gea would still be in goal for United by that time remains to be seen. But a move for Bale seems highly unlikely at this point, and it might take years for the two clubs to repair their relationship to the point where transfer dealings become a possibility once again.
