LLWS Player Wins Bet with Penn State Coach James Franklin by Making 30-Yard FG
Not only can Red Land (Pennsylvania) Little Leaguer Braden Kolmansberger play baseball, but he may also have a future as kicker.
The Red Land team recently took in a Penn State football practice. Although watching the players run through drills would have been a fun experience on its own, the Little Leaguers left practice feeling pretty good after one of their own won a friendly bet with Nittany Lions coach James Franklin.
Franklin initially challenged Kolmansberger to make a 35-yard field goal. Seeing the youngster was a little nervous about that wager, the Penn State coach enticed the baseball player by making it only a 30-yard field goal.
Game on.
The terms of the bet were simple. A miss would result in 30 up-downs by the Red Land team; a make would result in Franklin doing 30 pushups.
Kolmansberger received a lot of support from his teammates and the Nittany Lions players as he lined up for the kick. Franklin playfully tried to get inside the boy's head, but he was unable to rattle the kid.
Kolmansberger nailed the kick and subsequently got mobbed by all of the players on the field. And yes, Franklin paid up on the bet.
Franklin made sure to wish the Pennsylvania squad the best of luck as it attempts to win the 2015 Little League World Series:
