EPL Results: Saturday's Week 4 Scores, Updated 2015 Premier League Table

Tim DanielsAug 29, 2015

Manchester City continued to showcase the only semblance of stability during an otherwise hectic start to the new Premier League campaign Saturday. The Sky Blues scored a 2-0 victory over Watford at Etihad Stadium to remain perfect through four matches.

A few other top clubs weren't nearly as fortunate. Chelsea suffered another early setback in their title defense, enduring a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace. Liverpool also watched a home fixture slip away, dropping a 3-0 result to West Ham.

Let's check out the full list of results from Saturday's match along with an updated table amid the early stages of the season. It's followed by a recap of the action.

Saturday Recap

City struggled to capitalize on their possession advantage in the first 45 minutes. Then an adjustment that pushed Raheem Sterling further forward after halftime changed the complexion of the match. He scored just a few minutes after the break to spark a much more complete second-half effort.

Sky Blues boss Manuel Pellegrini praised the high-priced summer addition for making a quick impact on the new term, as noted by the club's official site.

"I think that playing with creative players like Yaya [Toure], [Samir] Nasri, Kun [Aguero]—Raheem will score goals," Pellegrini said. "He's not just a scoring player though, he works a lot in the game and is good at one-v-ones which is something we perhaps needed to improve upon. He's demonstrating that he's not an expensive player, he's a good player."

Just as it seemed Brendan Rodgers had worked his way off the hot seat after a solid start to the campaign, Liverpool put together a flat performance. Manuel Lanzini scored inside the first five minutes for West Ham, and they never looked back, cruising to a three-goal triumph on the road.

It's been a long time since the Hammers pulled off such a positive result at Anfield, which Bleacher Report UK highlighted:

The reigning champions from Chelsea are also looking for answers after letting Crystal Palace score an upset with a pair of second-half goals. The Blues seemed to recover at least a point courtesy of Radamel Falcao with about 10 minutes left, but Joel Ward answered mere moments later to earn three points.

While it's still incredibly early, the Blues are now eight points behind City already. And the manner in which they dug that hole is surely going to raise some eyebrows, which Tancredi Palmeri of BeIN Sport discussed:

Arsenal emerged from a physical battle at Newcastle with all three points. That doesn't tell the full story, however, as their only tally was an own goal by Fabricio Coloccini despite playing a man up for the final 75 minutes of the match.

All told, the Gunners generated 22 shots compared to just one for the Magpies, but the finishing touch was lacking once again. Uber Arsenal probably echoed the thoughts of many in the Arsenal fanbase:

Everton and Tottenham played to a scoreless draw in the day's other notable match. Harry Kane continued to look out of sorts for Spurs, failing to take advantage of a clear run at goal from near midfield in the first half. They need him to rediscover his form to start climbing the table.

American goalkeeper Tim Howard rose to the occasion several times for the Toffees, who didn't generate much attacking pressure, to preserve the draw. Squawka Football showcased his busy day late in the match:

Elsewhere, West Brom took advantage of two early red cards against Stoke to pick up three points. Aston Villa and Sunderland as well as Bournemouth and Leicester played to draws.

Looking ahead to Sunday, last term's surprise side, Southampton, will attempt to jump-start their campaign against Norwich after going 0-2-1 over the first three weeks.

That's followed by Manchester United taking a trip to Liberty Stadium to face Swansea. Louis van Gaal's squad can move into second place with a win.
