Pennsylvania vs. Texas
Who wins: Pennsylvania 6-3
What a matchup this is set to be. Just Wednesday, Pennsylvania outdueled Texas 3-0 to make the U.S. championship while Texas had to outlast California in eight innings on Thursday.
With a majority of what could be a 15,000-to-20,000-person crowd rooting for Pennsylvania, it is going to be difficult for them to come out flat on Saturday afternoon. But it will be a little less daunting for a Texas team that already experienced the big Pennsylvania crowd on Wednesday.
But Pennsylvania has a couple days of rest under its belt with the belief that it can very well defeat Texas again. It won't be able to roll out Adam Cramer on the mound, who struck out 13 Texas batters on Wednesday, but it can start Jaden Henline, who shut down the Midwest in Pennsylvania's 18-0 win last week.
Anchoring their lineup will be Cole Wagner, who has been absolutely mashing the ball as of late, according to PA Media Group's Geoff Morrow. Wagner went deep on Wednesday against Texas:
Texas is an extremely resilient team and it won't go quietly. It came back from three separate deficits on Thursday against California and it will push Pennsylvania to the limit. But the hometown team will just be too much for it to handle.
Mexico vs. Japan
Who will win: Japan 4-2
It might not have the same offensive firepower as the American sides, but Japan just knows how to win and win close. Each of its three wins at the Little League World Series have been by two runs or less, including an eight-inning thriller against Venezuela that sent it to the International championship.
They are headlined by Shingo Tomita, who has hit a pair of home runs in the three games this tournament to power the offense.
Japan's defense, however, has been its most valuable asset, allowing a little over three runs per game at the Little League World Series with a team that stresses excellence with the glove. It's a sight to behold, according to ESPN's Dave Flemming:
Mexico has had a long road to the semifinals and its offense is coming alive now, scoring 14, 11 and 11, respectively, in its last three games after losing to Japan 3-1 on Aug. 23.
While it might have revenge on its mind, Japan will use its pitching and defense to frustrate and shut down Mexico on Saturday afternoon.
