Sydney Darts Masters 2015: Scores, Results and Final Prize Money After Saturday

Tom SunderlandAug 22, 2015

The Sydney Darts Masters ended explosively on Saturday as Phil Taylor hammered old rival Adrian Lewis 11-3 in the tournament's final to seal his third successive title at the Qantas Credit Union Arena.

The Power defeated Peter Wright 10-7 earlier in the day to take his spot in the final, while Lewis edged Raymond van Barneveld with a dramatic 10-9 win in his semi-final fixture.

Taylor recorded a small piece of darts history thanks to his nine-dart finish against Wright, which DartsJournalist pointed out as being the first of its kind to be televised in Australia, Taylor's 11th overall on live broadcast:

Recap

Swiftly following two hugely entertaining Sydney semi-finals, there was a lot to be expected from Taylor's winner-takes-all clash against Lewis, but Jackpot was woefully short of his long-term foe.

Spirits were initially high after Lewis held his throw to match The Power at one leg apiece, but it all came crumbling down as Taylor won seven legs on the bounce to lead 8-1.

The defending champion was superior in all aspects as his consistency and guile led to an excellent performance, with Punters Lounge Darts outlining his dominance en route:

As was the case in his semi, Taylor was particularly imperious on his own throw and failed to surrender a single one against Lewis, seeing out the dominant lead to win by a gulf of eight legs.

Australia has proven to be a particularly hospitable setting for the world No. 3 over the past two years, with Fox Sports Lab detailing Taylor's 20-match winning streak in that part of the world:

Taylor's nine-darter may have stolen the headlines earlier on Saturday, but it was Lewis' back-and-forth fixture against Van Barneveld that stood out as the superior contest overall.

Jackpot trailed 9-8 leading into the final stretch, but as commentator Stuart Pyke confirmed, the Stoke native hit back with two-leg victories at the death to snatch his spot in the final crescendo:

Barney started out in a positive stride, sealing back-to-back wins in the first two legs as he was first to break his opponent's throw and race into an early lead.

It was only to be a temporary advantage in the power balance, though, as Lewis struck back with a four-leg winning streak to finally hit his stride.

The pair continued to exchange blows and Jackpot looked to have one foot in the final thanks to an 8-6 lead, but Van Barneveld thundered back with three consecutive legs to take the lead for just the second time in the match.

It was at that juncture Lewis launched a carefully timed last-gasp effort, levelling thanks to a brilliant 167 finish before throwing a 140 and 180 in the deciding leg to clinch a 10-8 triumph. The official PDC Results Twitter account illustrated just how close the match was, with the pair boasting equal averages:

Taylor had an easier time of things against Wright, despite also conceding his first throw as he fell to an early deficit, quickly responding with six of his own on the trot to lead 6-2.

The Power would lose his throw just once more in the remaining nine legs and the historical nine-dart flurry to finish was the icing on the cake, earning the plaudits of Target Darts' Garry Plumber:

After collecting his third Sydney Darts Masters crown, Taylor remains the only player to have ever won the tournament since its inauguration in 2013, further cementing his place in darts folklore.

Less than a week remains until the PDC tour makes its way to New Zealand for the first Auckland Darts Masters, where 16-time world champion Taylor will look to extend the reach of his darts dominion.
