Arsenal 3-2 Derby County

MAJADAHONDA, SPAIN - JANUARY 27: Nombo Otia of Atletico de Madrid wins the header before Hinds Kaylen of Arsenal during the UEFA Youth League match between Atletico de Madrid and Arsenal at Atletico de Madrid Sport City on January 27, 2015 in Majadahonda

Things began very well for the Gunners in this one, as Hinds latched onto a loose ball in the ninth minute to fire his team in front. From that point on, it looked as though it was going to be plain sailing for Arsenal, who ground out a 1-0 win against Fulham last time out.

But credit must go to the visitors, who came roaring back into the contest. Derby got a foothold in the match almost immediately after conceding, keeping the ball well and limiting their illustrious opponents to potshots from distance.

Eventually they got the goal their play deserved, as Offrande Zanzala was felled in the box and Callum Guy slotted home the subsequent penalty.

For a spell afterward, it was all about Zanzala. The youngster terrorised the Arsenal defence in the second period, forcing a quality save from Ryan Huddart. Then he was denied by a super Tafari Moore tackle, before coming tantalisingly close with a looping header that crashed off the crossbar.

Indeed, the Arsenal keeper actually kept his side in this match for long spells. Huddart was on hand to deny Mason Bennett on a couple of occasions late on, with Gunners seeming unable to contain a Rams side that was full of attacking endeavour.

But those saves proved to be crucial, because with just one minute left on the clock, Stephy Mavididi headed home what looked to be the final goal of the game. However, with the visitors pressing for an equaliser, the Gunners were able to break away in stoppage time, with the impressive Alex Iwobi playing in Hinds for his second of the day.

Off The Post News were very impressed with Hinds' display:

The goals weren't done for the day either, as Shaq McDonald got one back for the visitors to set up a nervy finish. But there wasn't enough time to launch another attack for Derby, leaving the hosts delighted with a 3-2 victory.

Fulham 0-3 Wolverhampton Wanderers

WOLVERHAMPTON, ENGLAND - JANUARY 13: Fans and players observe a minute's silence for former Wolves owner Sir Jack Hayward before the FA Cup third round replay match between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Fulham at Molineux on January 13, 2015 in Wolverhampt

Bradley Reid ensured there were no worries for Wolves in their second game of the campaign, as his first-minute goal settled the nerves at Fulham, paving the way for a fine 3-0 win.

Connor Ronan made it 2-0 for Wanderers before the interval, and from that point on the team never looked flustered. The home side were powerless to prevent Wolves surging forward through their exciting attacking players, with Ronan and Reid causing plenty of problems in the final third.

If there was one blemish on the away team's evening, it was another injury to Razak Boukari. As noted here by the team’s Twitter account, he had to be taken off with a fitness problem:

A two-goal lead can be dangerous, especially on the road. But there was never any inclination that Wolves were going to let this one slip. In fact, there was a sense of inevitability that they would extend their lead, and they did exactly that thanks to a neat finish from Jed Wallace with just 10 minutes remaining.

It’s been an encouraging beginning to the season for the Shropshire side, who now sit on six points from three matches. The display here suggests that this is a group with plenty of potential, and they’ll be desperate to showcase their talents in their next encounter more than any other as they gear up to face West Bromwich Albion in the Black Country derby.
