Moustapha Diagne Reportedly Won't Attend Syracuse, to Enroll in 2-Year School

Alec NathanAug 20, 2015

Syracuse Orange basketball recruit Moustapha Diagne signed a letter of intent to play his college ball for the ACC power Nov. 12, 2014, but those plans have reportedly been derailed.

According to Syracuse.com's Mike Waters, the school released a statement Thursday confirming Diagne won't enroll at Syracuse in 2015. Instead, he's expected to attend a two-year school, per the university's statement.

Diagne, a native of Senegal, was renowned as a focal point of Syracuse's 2015 recruiting class. According to 247Sports, the 6'9'', 240-pound power forward was a 4-star recruit at Pope John XXIII High School in Sparta, New Jersey. There, Diagne established himself as the 15th-ranked power forward in his class.

And while he had offers from upward of 15 schools, Diagne chose Syracuse over the likes of Kansas, Connecticut, Memphis, Villanova and West Virginia.

Head coach Jim Boeheim's squad was already hurting on the recruiting front after getting docked three scholarships a year for the next four years, per Waters, and Diagne's departure stands to only compound issues for the Orange.

After Syracuse lost bigs Rakeem Christmas and Chris McCullough to the NBA, it will be forced to scramble for answers up front.

With a new season around the corner, pressure is steadily mounting on Tyler Roberson and Chinonso Obokoh as they face the prospect of inheriting bigger roles with depth emerging as a question mark.
