Sacha Killeya-Jones to Kentucky: Wildcats Land 4-Star PF Prospect

Mike ChiariAug 19, 2015

The rich continue to get richer at the University of Kentucky, as head coach and recruiter extraordinaire John Calipari secured a commitment from highly touted forward prospect Sacha Killeya-Jones on Wednesday.

According to ESPN.com's Paul Biancardi, the Lynchburg, Virginia, native decided to play his college basketball for the Wildcats after previously committing to the University of Virginia.

Killeya-Jones—who decommitted from the Cavaliers in June—is a 4-star prospect who ranks as the No. 11 power forward and No. 40 overall player in the Class of 2016, per 247Sports.

After making his official decision to join the Wildcats, Killeya-Jones pointed toward Coach Cal as a deciding factor, according to Biancardi.

"I look at what Coach Calipari has done with players like myself, and I see the way he prepares them for the next level and it's impressive," he said. "He is a really genuine person who is a demanding coach. I felt very comfortable with him and [I] trust him."

Kentucky has no shortage of talent on a yearly basis due to Calipari's ability to reload through recruiting, but it is also at a disadvantage when compared to other schools since the bulk of its top players leave after one year.

Because of that, Ben Roberts of the Lexington Herald-Leader views Killeya-Jones as a key addition for the 2016-17 season:

Killeya-Jones is big at 6'10", but 247Sports lists him at only 207 pounds, which suggests that he must grow into his body before becoming a truly dominant player at the collegiate level.

Calipari has done great things with bigs in recent years, as evidenced by the likes of Anthony Davis, DeMarcus Cousins, Nerlens Noel, Julius Randle, Karl-Anthony Towns and Willie Cauley-Stein making the leap to the NBA as early picks.

Killeya-Jones has the talent to join that elite group in the near future, and there may be no better place for him to hone his skills and prepare himself for the NBA than Lexington, Kentucky.
