LeBron James Shouts Out Jeremiah Smith as Ohio State Star Pads Heisman Trophy Resume vs. Maryland
An Ohio legend gave a shoutout to Jeremiah Smith amid another outstanding game for the Ohio State star receiver.
After Smith notched his second touchdown of the first half against Maryland, LeBron James took to social media to give him props. James also said Smith should win this year's Heisman Trophy.
It's hard to argue that any player in college football has a better Heisman Trophy resume than Smith. The junior came into Saturday's game leading the nation in receptions (44), receiving yards (823) and touchdowns (9).
With two more touchdowns against Maryland in the first half alone, Smith will have bolstered his resume even more by the end of the day.
Last week, Smith recorded his 36th career touchdown, breaking Ohio State's record for receiving scores. The record was previously held by Chris Olave, who set his mark during the 2021 campaign. Later in the game against Iowa, he set the program's new receptions record.
Considering Smith isn't even halfway through the season, he'll have the chance to extend his records even further.
Smith currently has the best odds to win the Heisman Trophy at -165, per FanDuel Sportsbook. He sits ahead of Miami quarterback Darian Mensah (+950), Notre Dame quarterback CJ Carr (+950) and Alabama quarterback Keelon Russell (+950).
Smith would be the first wide receiver-only to win the award since Alabama's Devonta Smith in 2020, and he'd be the first Heisman Trophy winner for Ohio State since quarterback Troy Smith won the coveted award in 2006.
While Smith is hoping to take home the Heisman Trophy, he also has his eyes set on winning another national championship. The Buckeyes stumbled against Texas early in the year but have since won their last three games.
