He received a shoutout from LeBron James, a noted Ohio State fan, for the accomplishment.
The Buckeyes' previous record for all-time receiving touchdowns was set by Chris Olave during the 2021 season.
It's worth noting that Olave recorded his 35th touchdown catch near the end of his fourth year at Ohio State, while Smith is in the middle of his third season with the Buckeyes.
Smith wasn't finished writing his name into the Buckeyes' history books on Saturday, as he also set their all-time receptions record in the third quarter against the Hawkeyes.
The 20-year-old sits atop Ohio State's all-time receiving yards list as well after setting the new record on Sept. 19.
Smith was already a top weapon in the Buckeyes' passing attack from 2024-25, but he's established himself as a true threat to win the Heisman Trophy this season.
In his first four games of the year, he reeled in 33 catches for 617 yards and seven touchdowns.
Smith didn't show any signs of slowing down against Iowa, recording six receptions for 111 yards in the first half.
