Rory McIlroy Drops Brutally Honest Quote About Value LIV Golfers Would Bring Back to PGA Tour
Amid questions about the future of LIV Golf, many have started to wonder whether having LIV Golf players back on the PGA Tour is a possibility.
While Rory McIlroy said he can see it happening at some point, he questioned what kind of value they'd bring to the PGA Tour.
"I mean, I'd argue have they brought value to LIV?" McIlroy said at the BMW Championship.
Scottie Scheffler, meanwhile, had a very different take:
McIlroy's comments come after LIV Golf canceled an event in Michigan that was set to be the 2026 season finale. The event in Indianapolis will now serve as the last event of the season.
The cancellation of the season finale only adds to speculation about LIV Golf potentially coming to an end. The future of the organization has been in question since Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund pulled its financial backing earlier this year.
Joel Beallย ofย Golf Digestย reported Monday that "LIV has already signaled it may file for bankruptcy, a number of LIV contractors have complained they haven't been paid for services, and LIV is facing a lawsuit from the Premier Golf League where the PGL alleges LIV of breach of confidence and unlawful means conspiracy."
If LIV heads to bankruptcy, it's fair to assume that its top golfers will want back on the tour.
Brooks Koepkaย returnedย to the PGA Tour this year after playing for LIV Golf, but his return came with a stipulation that he could not play in the $20 million signature events unless he earned his way. He also had to pay $5 million to charity and had no access to equity.
PGA offered the same deal to Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau and Cameron Smith after Koepka returned.
Rahm and other big names leaving LIV Golf would only be more detrimental as the organization continues to head towards a potential demise.
