PGA Championship 2015: How to View Friday's Live Leaderboard Scores, Updates
It's one day down and three to go at the PGA Championship from Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wisconsin, as the second round tees off on Friday.
With Dustin Johnson holding a one-stroke lead over David Lingmerth, a tightly packed leaderboard is sure to see plenty of movement during Thursday's second round.
Follow the leaderboard below to view the PGA Championship's live updates:
At six under, Johnson has taken an early lead at various tournaments before, especially majors. But his inability to close a major out and win one does not pair well with this fact pointed out by the Golf Channel's Justin Ray:
He has lost the lead and the tournament at the PGA Championship before. In 2010, with a one-stroke lead heading to the 18th hole, an infamous two-stroke penalty for grounding his club in the bunker dropped him to fifth.
He'll have to outrun not only the field but also the demons of tournaments past.
Sitting in a tie for 24th at one under, last year's PGA Championship winner Rory McIlroy proved that his ankle, which caused him to miss five weeks of competition, was just fine.
Though it was an inconsistent first day with three bogeys, the fact that he got through Thursday while staying in shouting distance of the lead is certainly encouraging, especially in a tournament that has been so kind to him, as ESPN Stats & Info noted:
Tied with McIlroy is the golfer trailing him in the world rankings at No. 2, Jordan Spieth, who is off to an unusually slow start in a major despite his one-under, as ESPN Stats & Info pointed out:
Yet despite his uncharacteristic opening, Spieth can find solace knowing that he's just one big round from shooting up the standings. And looking at his track record of two-consecutive majors to start the season, it would be difficult to count him out at such an early stage.
Spieth would overtake McIlroy for the No. 1 ranking in the world if he wins the tournament and McIlroy doesn't finish in second. Here are the other possibilities that would allow Spieth to move up, according to Golf Channel's Ryan Lavner:
"• If Spieth is second alone and McIlroy is not in the top six
• If Spieth is T-2 with one other player and McIlroy is not in the top 13
• If Spieth is T-2 with two other players and McIlroy is not in the top 33
• If Spieth is third alone and McIlroy misses the cut
"
It does not seem like McIlroy will miss the cut unless he shoots somewhere near a three-over on Friday, so it is safe to assume that these two names will be among the top come the end of the tournament.
But with their current positions near the middle of the pack, they have helped create a tournament that could be filled with some late charges, fist-clenching shots and jaw-dropping finishes.
They'll be re-starting the tournament at 9:05 a.m. ET on Friday.
