PGA Championship 2015 Schedule: Friday Tee Times, TV Coverage and Predictions

Steve SilvermanAug 14, 2015

The first round of the PGA Championship did not disappoint. While players who teed off in the afternoon faced more difficult conditions as a result of heavy winds at Whistling Straits, the stage appears to be set for an interesting second round.

Dustin Johnson, who lost in heartbreaking fashion at the U.S. Open earlier this year, has a one-stroke lead over Swedish golfer David Lingmerth after the opening 18 holes. Johnson took advantage of excellent weather conditions in Kohler, Wisconsin, and fired a six-under-par 66.

Lingmerth had the best round of all the golfers who teed off in the afternoon session. He shot a five-under-par 67 and was on fire early in the round, as he birdied five of the first seven holes.

He tied Johnson briefly when he moved to six under late in the round, but a subsequent bogey left him one stroke off the lead.

Jason Day, Matt Kuchar and J.B. Holmes lead a large group of golfers who are two strokes back at four under par.

The featured group of Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth and Zach Johnson had to contend with heavy winds in the afternoon. McIlroy and Spieth both finished at one-under 71, while Johnson shot a three-over 75. That trio will tee off Friday at 9:05 a.m. ET.

Predictions

Even if the wind picks up in the afternoon once again, don't expect much of a letdown from Johnson. He has been strong in the early rounds of major championships, and we believe that will be the case here.

Johnson has too much power, and he can drive the ball through the wind like few other players. We also expect Day to follow up on his opening round of 68 with another solid round. Day may be the best player on tour who has not won a major, and that could change at this challenging course.

Look for McIlroy and Spieth to come through with strong second-round performances. McIlroy showed no ill effects from his injured ankle, and after shaking off the rust on the first hole, he hit the ball consistently the rest of the round. If he can come through with a few early putts, he could make a run at Johnson's lead.

Spieth was not sharp in the opening round, and he pulled a lot of shots to his left. However, he managed to break par. Look for a much sharper effort from Spieth in the second round

"

Jordan Spieth has made 29 bogeys in the Majors this season. He's birdied the next hole 45% of the time! http://t.co/H9qBKT9KQL

Lingmerth will not go away. While he may not have a high profile like Johnson, Day, McIlroy and Spieth, he showed his accuracy tee to green, and he is a respected European player. He has a chance to remain near the top of the leaderboard.

Predicted Standings After 36 Holes

Dustin Johnson 66-68=134

Jason Day 68-67=135

David Lingmerth 68-68= 136
