Recap
After falling to New Zealand in their Group E opener, potential finalists Jamaica condemned Uganda to the bottom of the pool with a decisive 12-goal victory on Thursday.
NTV Uganda showed the She Cranes were only capable of claiming victory in one quarter, with Jamaica's Romelda Aiken in particular showing her class en route to a 100-percent accurate shooting record:
Just seven goals separate second-place Jamaica from Malawi in third, with the pair poised to meet on Friday in a match that should decide who goes through to the semis.
Lower down the pecking order, Trinidad and Tobago assured themselves of a 12th-place finish at the very least after demolishing Samoa, and they were joined in the same play-off bracket by Scotland's superiors, Fiji.
The Samoans struggled to contend against the Calypso Girls in the possession stakes and were soundly outdone 67-47, despite a more spirited second-half display in which they attempted to revive the fixture.
Fiji's fixture against Scotland was a physical one, but as the numbers showed, the Thistles will rue a lack of accuracy as the reason for their defeat, considering they created the greater share of chances at goal:
The Pearls were left full of praise for star performer Taraima Mitchell as Fox Sports pointed out just how great a bearing her 32-goal haul had on the match's result:
The Scots will now face Trinidad and Tobago in their ninth-12th place play-off this Saturday, while Pacific Island rival Fiji and Samoa face off in the same bracket hoping to finish as highly as possible.
In the battle of the small nations, Barbados trounced Sri Lanka 67-33 to give themselves a moral boost ahead of the competition's close, as the Bajan Gems looked like the better of two mistake-laden outfits:
Although both teams still find themselves fighting to avoid last place, Barbados will take heart from Thursday's result before finding out who is set to join them in the 13th-16th place play-off bracket.
All eyes turn to Jamaica in advance of their meeting against Malawi on Friday, while New Zealand, Uganda, South Africa, Wales, Australia and England also return to the court.
