Red Sox Tie Franchise Record With 15th Straight Win, Box Score and Highlights from Historic Win

The Boston Red Sox are still rolling.

The Red Sox won their 15th straight game on Wednesday, beating the Baltimore Orioles 6-3 in the first game of a doubleheader. The win ties Boston's franchise record for consecutive wins, a mark that was set in 1946.

A win later on Wednesday against the Orioles would set a new win-streak record for the Red Sox.

The Red Sox jumped out to an early lead, scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the first when Caleb Durbin hit an RBI single. Jarren Duran then drove in two more in the first with a triple.

The Orioles cut into the lead with a run in the third, but Boston answered right back when Duran hit a sac fly that scored Durbin. After Baltimore homered in the fourth, Ceddanne Rafaela drilled one to left-center to make it a 6-2 game.

The Orioles scored again in the sixth inning, but they didn't have enough to mount the comeback.

Starting pitcher Jake Bennett went 5.2 innings on the mound, giving up three runs but getting four strikeouts to earn the win. Aroldis Chapman came on in the top of the ninth to earn the save.

The win streak for the Sox dates back to July 3 when they faced the Los Angeles Angels. They swept the Angels and did the same to the Chicago White Sox, New York Mets and Tampa Bay Rays. A win on Wednesday night would give Boston five consecutive sweeps.

The Red Sox were 37-48 before the streak and appeared on their way to missing the postseason, but they've completely turned the season around. They improved to 52-48 with the win on Wednesday and now sit in third place in the AL East and are in wild-card position.

According to FanGraphs, Boston has a 62 percent chance to make the playoffs.

When the Red Sox started the season 10-17 and fired manager Alex Cora, it was hard to imagine they'd be a postseason team. Now, Boston is surging into the second half of the season and very well could be a team to watch this fall.
