Dodgers 'Hell-Bent' on Being 1st NL Team to Win 3 Straight World Series, Says MLB Exec

Less than two weeks away from the MLB trade deadline, the Los Angeles Dodgers could be very active in trying to upgrade their roster due to a strong desire to go back-to-back-to-back as World Series champions.

Per ESPN's Buster Olney, one league executive described the Dodgers as being "hell-bent" on becoming the first National League team to win three straight World Series titles when discussing their approach leading up to the Aug. 3 deadline.

"With that organizational desire, the possibility of a new economic system in the future and a farm system flush with tradable assets, the Dodgers are going to do everything they can to bolster the roster over the next two weeks," Olney wrote.

The New York Yankees and Oakland Athletics are the only teams in MLB history to win the World Series in at least three consecutive years. New York has done it on three different times (1936 to '39, 1949 to '53, 1998 to 2000). The A's did it from 1972 to '74.

The Dodgers' World Series wins in 2024 and 2025 made them the first franchise to win back-to-back titles since the Yankees' most recent three-peat.

The funny thing is the Dodgers don't need to do anything and they will be favored to win another title. They have the best record (64-38) and run differential (plus-153) in MLB entering play on Wednesday.

The Dodgers have done that despite getting a combined eight starts from Tyler Glasnow and Blake Snell; six innings from Edwin Díaz; and subpar offensive seasons from Mookie Betts, Kyle Tucker and Teoscar Hernández to this point.

Each of the three pitchers on that list are expected back at some point, which would seem to decrease the Dodgers' urgency to add more arms. Díaz could be back as soon as this weekend. Snell made his first rehab appearance on Saturday. Glasnow is further behind those two, but he took a step forward last week as he recovers from a back injury.

Even with those reinforcements on the way, the Dodgers have been cited as potentially the best match for the Detroit Tigers in a deal for Tarik Skubal if the two-time AL Cy Young winner gets moved.

Shohei Ohtani's lingering knee issues that are preventing him from pitching does cloud some of their rotation certainty and makes Skubal a potentially attractive option, but The Athletic's Katie Woo noted the Dodgers won't go "all in" to acquire the left-hander since he is only under team control through the end of this season.

The Dodgers are clearly living a charmed life when their biggest concern is how much talent from their loaded farm system they might give up to acquire Skubal if the Tigers want to trade him.
