Sunday's final between Spain and Argentina will carry multiple storylines and plenty of excitement.
Led by superstar Lionel Messi, Argentina is looking to be the first World Cup champion to repeat since Brazil in 1962. La Roja is looking to carry a title into the 2030 World Cup, which Spain will host alongside Morocco and Portugal.
While football die-hards will be tuning in for the action on the pitch, even casual fans can enjoy the entertainment scheduled for before and after the match's first half.
The closing ceremony is slated to begin 90 minutes before the final begins and will be headlined by pop star Post Malone. The internationally known rapper-singer was recently announced as the ceremony's closing act.
"At a time when sport, culture and global attention converge, Post Malone will deliver a performance designed to celebrate the tournament's journey and ignite the atmosphere before the world's attention turns to the two finalists," said FIFA President Gianni Infantino in a statement.
Robbie Williams, Laura Pausini, and Nicole Scherzinger are also scheduled to perform during the ceremony, while Jennifer Hudson will sing the U.S. national anthem before the final match.
In addition to the musical lineup, fans can also expect appearances by streaming star IShowSpeed and Hollywood legend Tom Cruise.
When Argentina and Spain go to intermission, fans will be treated to the first-ever World Cup halftime show. The show, curated by Coldplay's Chris Martin, will feature several performers and will extend halftime past its usual 15-minute limit.
However, the Super Bowl-style halftime performance isn't expected to create as lengthy a break as it might at the actual Super Bowl.
The halftime show will be arguably even more star-studded than the closing ceremony. The list of known performers includes Madonna, Shakira, BTS, Burna Boy, Justin Bieber, Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel.
Coldplay is also slated to perform alongside the New York-based PS22 Chorus.
Fans can also expect to see some favorite characters from The Muppets and Sesame Street incorporated into the halftime performance. According to Calum Roche of Diario AS, Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Elmo, Cookie Monster, and Count von Count have been confirmed to appear.
While it's unclear exactly how characters like Elmo will mesh with the music of Madonna and Justin Bieber, the multi-faceted show is set to raise funds for the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund.
