Recap

Northwood Little League out of South Carolina is a win away from making the trip to Williamsport for the Little League World Series after beating Keystone Little League out of Florida, 5-4.

Terrence Gist was the hero, as his two-out single in the sixth knocked home the go-ahead run and was the difference for Northwood. Alex Edmondson also came up big for the team, ripping a two-run homer in the top of the third.

"They just never give, never give up, keep playing hard every inning, every inning," Northwood manager Kevin Tumblin told ESPN after the game, per Bob Castello of GreenvilleOnline.com. "That's who they are. That's who they've been all year."

Northwood now awaits the winner of Wednesday's elimination game between Keystone and Mechanicsville National out of Virginia.

West Side Little League of Ohio needed a bit of late magic of its own, as a solo home run from Kurtis Reid in the top of the sixth gave the team a 7-6 win over Olney Little League out of Illinois.

Elsewhere in the Great Lakes Regional, Indiana pitched a gem on its way to a 3-0 victory over Michigan. Austin Oppel threw 4.2 innings of three-hit ball and tallied six strikeouts, while Ray Reisinger and Luke Vick closed the door the rest of the way. Michigan only tallied those three early hits, and Tucker Biven’s home run was more than enough for the Indiana offense.

New Jersey exploded for three runs in both the bottom of the third and fourth innings led by Sean Slusak (three RBI and a home run), knocking off Maryland, 7-4. Jake Wendell also ripped three RBI for the side from New Jersey.

Pennsylvania beat New York 11-3 in the other contest in the Mid-Atlantic Regional behind home runs from Jaden Henline, Cole Wagner, Jarrett Wisman and Ethan Phillips. Pennsylvania piled it on from the start and built a 9-0 lead before New York scored its first run in the fourth inning.

The Midwest Regional saw a barrage of runs on Tuesday, as Missouri knocked off Iowa, 11-3, and Nebraska got past Kansas, 11-6. Jaystin Smith drilled two homers for Missouri.

Jaystin Smith was a beast for Missouri, smacking a grand slam and five RBI in total in the blowout win. Cole Gayman turned in an impressive showing of his own, whiffing nine batters and allowing just one hit and no runs in 3.1 innings pitched.

Nebraska, meanwhile, scored two runs in the first, four in the second and four in the third, outhitting Kansas in a wild win. The team from Kansas kept up for the first two innings, scoring three in the first and two in the second, but it didn't have the firepower to keep up with the Nebraska side. Nine different players scored for Nebraska, led by Cole Kreber's three runs.

Montana's eight-run second inning paced it to a 10-1 win over Wyoming, as Cayden May paced the team with four RBI. Meanwhile, Markevian Hence struck out 12 batters in Arkansas' 1-0 win over Louisiana.

Idaho beat Alaska, 10-0, in a game that was never really in doubt. While the Idaho offense led the way (although three Alaska errors opened the door for more runs), Ben Ford pitched 2.1 innings of no-hit baseball and tallied six strikeouts in the process.

Texas East handled Colorado, 9-1, behind a steady onslaught of offense. Texas East pushed across two runs in the third inning, three in the fifth and then four in the sixth to completely break the game open. Marco Gutierrez, Ben Gottfried and Jarrett Tadlock all hit home runs (Gutierrez hit two) for Texas East, while Colorado only managed three hits.

In the West Regional, Nevada knocked off Northern California to the tune of 9-3 behind a six-run second inning and home runs from Reed Pippin, Santino Panaro and Josh McLean.

Elsewhere, Hawaii outlasted Arizona in one of the most entertaining contests of Tuesday's loaded slate, 12-9. Hawaii took an initial 3-0 lead, but Arizona answered with five runs of its own in the bottom of the third. Hawaii then pushed six across in the fourth, which proved to be the difference. Hawaii's Vincent Ogasawara connected on a grand slam.
