Did Jaylen Brown Request Trade? New Rumors Reveal Star's Stance Before Celtics-76ers Blockbuster
After a tumultuous offseason, Jaylen Brown is reportedly on the move.
But not because he asked for it.
ESPN's Shams Charania reported Wednesday the Boston Celtics traded Brown to the Eastern Conference rival Philadelphia 76ers for Paul George, two first-round picks and two second-round picks.

Charania then appeared on SportsCenter and reported, "my understanding is Jaylen Brown through all of this, never requested a trade. He never asked out of Boston."
The post-trade update parallels Charania's pre-trade one from Wednesday morning when he appeared on First Take and said the five-time All-Star did not request a trade even though Boston was shopping him to "a market of about eight to 10 teams in the last several days."
ESPN's Brian Windhorst also reported the Celtics were "offering him everywhere" and "very motivated" to trade Brown.
That there reportedly wasn't an official trade request is notable because Brown seemed ready to leave when he liked an Instagram comment calling for Boston to trade him to "a city who respects him."
He may have been feeling a lack of respect after he was included in the team's trade offer for Giannis Antetokounmpo before the Milwaukee Bucks decided to move the future Hall of Famer to the Miami Heat.
Bringing Brown back after that would have made for some awkward conversations and situations to navigate, although competing for a championship surely could have helped the two sides mend any fences that needed to be fixed.
Alas, he is now a member of the rival 76ers and could stand in Boston's way come playoff time if he fits in well with Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe.
Brown is coming off his best individual season in which he averaged career-highs in points (28.7), rebounds (6.9) and assists (5.1) per game while finishing sixth in MVP voting.
A similar season in 2026-27 could lead the Celtics to regret this move.
