New Rumors on Kristaps Porzingis Warriors Contract Reveals Limited Guarantees amid LeBron James Buzz
The two-year, $40 million contract that Kristaps Porziņģis signed to remain with the Golden State Warriors on Monday doesn't contain much guaranteed money.
According to Fred Katz of The Athletic, Porziņģis' deal is only guaranteed for $3 million per year. The Warriors can waive him before July 7 and only pay him $3 million in salary for the 2026-27 season.
Porziņģis is also eligible to be traded immediately since he was signed before he hit free agency, via Katz.
The Warriors are "at the front of the line" among teams pursuing LeBron James after his Los Angeles Lakers exit, according to NBA insiders Marc Stein and Jake Fischer.
Golden State has also been linked to Washington Wizards star Anthony Davis in addition to James, but ESPN's Marc J. Spears reported Tuesday that Washington wasn't interested in parting ways with Davis.
Per ESPN's Ramona Shelburne, the Warriors want a commitment from James before attempting to land Davis on the trade market.
The limited guarantees on Porziņģis' new contract can make it easier for Golden State to potentially add James or Davis.
For now, Porziņģis is set to enter his first full season as a member of the Warriors after he was acquired by the team in a trade with the Atlanta Hawks on Feb. 5.
The 30-year-old averaged 16.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.1 blocks in 23.7 minutes per game following the change of scenery. He shot 43.3 percent from the field and 31.1 percent from three-point territory.
As the Warriors look to build a contending roster around Stephen Curry, Porziņģis' deal gives them more financial flexibility.
