Barclays U21 Premier League 2015: Monday Results, Table and Upcoming Fixtures
Hugo Lloris helped Tottenham Hotspur’s young stars to the standout result of the Under-21 Premier League fixtures on Monday, as they trounced Everton 4-1.
The French goalkeeper completed 90 minutes in the match as part of his recuperation from injury, in which a brace from Alex Pritchard was backed up by goals from Nathan Oduwa and Shaquile Coulthirst, as the young Spurs side got their season underway with a real swagger.
The other matches in the top flight proved to be very tight, as the day's three later games all finished tied. In the second tier, there were vital wins for Derby County and West Bromwich Albion over Blackburn Rovers and Swansea City, respectively; Aston Villa and Stoke City played out a 0-0 stalemate.

Pritchard Shows His Class for Spurs

After showing little creativity in a poor opening-day showing at Old Trafford, Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino will likely be on the lookout for some ingenuity to add to his team. In Pritchard, the Spurs boss may have an ideal candidate to come in and make a real impact.
The young midfielder dazzled in this display, scoring two goals before half-time to put Everton on the back foot. Tottenham Talk expect the 22-year-old to provide some genuine competition to the club’s star players in 2015-16:
"So @pritch_93 is going to be lovely competition for @ChrisEriksen8 this season. Might give him a kick up the arse
— Tottenham Talk (@tottenhamtalk1) August 10, 2015"
Everton's manager, David Unsworth, also paid tribute to Pritchard in the aftermath of the contest and accepted his side were well short of their usual standards, per Dave Prentice of the Liverpool Echo:
"I did think Alex Pritchard - one of their first-team squad members - was a massive difference. He was outstanding in the first half and he made the difference in a 10-minute spell where we conceded two goals.
We gave ourselves a lifeline with the way in which we responded and got the goal, but then the manner in which we conceded straight after was the major disappointment from the game.
"

Elsewhere, Manchester United’s youngsters got the defence of their title off to an underwhelming start, as they drew 1-0 with Leicester City.
The Foxes went ahead in this one after an own goal from Ashley Fletcher, but a fine solo goal from Guillermo Varela gave the young Red Devils parity before the interval.
Also in Division 1, Middlesbrough and Reading played out an absorbing 1-1 draw. The Royals went ahead a couple of minutes before half-time after a swift counter-attack was finished off brilliantly by Rowan Liburd. A poachers goal from Jordan Jones levelled things up for the hosts and despite the best efforts of both sides, no more goals were scored in the second period.
Southampton and Manchester City have two of the most exciting academies in the country, and they played out a thoroughly entertaining game in their season opener, as a last-gasp Thierry Ambrose goal rescued a point for the Northerners in a 2-2 draw.

New signing Jordy Clasie got a runout for the Saints side, but it was Marcus Barnes who stole the show for the hosts. He opened the scoring for Southampton with a powerful finish from the edge of the penalty area, but Barnes’ goal was canceled out by a brilliant Bersant Celina free-kick.
As we can see courtesy of the Southampton Twitter feed, it was a sublime strike from the young City star:
The young Saints striker was an effervescent threat throughout, though, and he grabbed his second of the game 13 minutes later to make it 2-1 to the hosts. But City responded brilliantly, and although they had to be patient, they eventually got their reward in stoppage time thanks to a 94th-minute goal from Ambrose.
Despite losing out on two points in the most heartbreaking way possible, Southampton should take plenty of positives from this result, and Barnes looks set to be another bright talent from the academy capable of making an impression in the first team this season.
