Monday night's matchup between Norway and Senegal at New Jersey's MetLife Stadium could be a stormy affair.
"Showers and potential thunderstorms with high amounts of moisture are expected to move through the area this afternoon and tonight," the U.S. National Weather Service said in an update regarding parts of New York City and New Jersey (h/t Associated Press). "These showers will have the potential to produce up to around 2 inches of rainfall per hour. These rates could result in flash flooding mainly over urban and poor drainage areas."

At the time of publication, The Weather Channel was calling for heavy thunderstorms starting at 9 p.m. ET, one hour after Norway vs. Senegal is set to kick off.
Scattered thunderstorms were also expected around 5 p.m. ET, with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani recommending fans start their travel plans four hours in advance of the game's start time.
"I'm urging everyone to plan ahead and give themselves extra time to travel safely," he noted. "No destination is worth risking your safety. If conditions become severe, stay indoors and wait until it's safe to travel."
