Sky Sports announced Khedira is set to miss the remainder of the tournament, adding: "According to German football magazine Kicker, the Juventus midfielder suffered 'at least a partial tear in the adductor of his left thigh.'"
Khedira suffered the injury just a few minutes into the clash with the Azzurri. Per BBC Sport's Phil McNulty, he was replaced by Bastian Schweinsteiger.
The former Real Madrid star enjoyed a solid first season with Juventus, but the injury bug that saw his Real Madrid career come to an end followed him to Italy.
Per Transfermarkt, he missed double-digit matches for the Bianconeri last term, but he was healthy enough to play a decisive role in their run to a fifth straight Serie A title and cemented his place in Germany's starting XI in the process.
The midfielder has enjoyed a fine tournament, and if Germany advance to the final, Khedira would be sorely missed if he cannot overcome this latest injury setback.
Schweinsteiger is a veteran, experienced option in midfield, but he didn't enjoy a great first season with Manchester United and doesn't offer the incredible range Khedira does.
