US Open Field 2026, Best Odds, Picks for Sleepers and Favorites
The third major of the 2026 golf season is upon us, and Shinnecock Hills Golf Club will give a tough test to some of the world's best competitors.
The U.S. Open has become one of the bigger challenges on the yearly calendar. Last year's tournament at Oakmont, for example, was won by J.J. Spaun with a score of just one under.
With fast greens, deep rough, and high winds impacting the wide-open links-style course, low scores should be scarce at Shinnecock, too.
"You have to pick and choose your moments, and that's where course management comes in," 2022 US Open champion Matt Fitzpatrick told reporters (h/t compleatgolfer.com).
This year's U.S. Open is shaping up to be a tight, competitive tournament, and a whole lot of fun. Here's what you need to know, including scheduling information, odds, and top picks among sleepers and favorites.

Precision and patience will be major factors on Long Island this weekend. While Shinnecock features plenty of open space and wide fairways, it also has fast greens, boasts unforgiving rough, and will punish mistakes off the tee, off the grass, and around the pin.
This makes things truly tricky to predict, as one series of mistakes could knock a favorite like Scottie Scheffler out of contention.
Scheffler is the heavy favorite heading into the weekend, and he's searching to complete his career grand slam. Bettors looking to back the storyline—as many did with Rory McIlroy at last year's Masters—will have decent odds for the favorite.
Those looking for a bigger payoff from one of the favorites, however, should consider Fitzpatrick or Tommy Fleetwood.
Fitzpatrick is coming off a second-place finish at TPC Toronto and has recorded three wins and five top-two finishes since the beginning of March. Fleetwood has yet to record a win this season but has two top-five finishes in his last four outings and a skill set well-suited to Shinnecock.
Rob Bolton of PGATour.com recently placed Fleetwood atop his U.S. Open power rankings.
"His closing 63 to finish second here in 2018 was more than nine strokes lower than the field average for the round," Bolton wrote. "Returns with two top fives and a T11 in his last four starts. The best suited to break through in this major."
Tyrrell Hatton looms as a solid pick at +4000, having finished fourth at last year's U.S. Open. He ranks 21st in the World Golf Rankings and has logged four top-10 finishes this season, including a third-place tie at The Masters. He's a strong bet at +160 for a top-20 finish.
At +4500 to win and +180 to finish top-20, Chris Gotterup is another strong sleeper to consider. He's proven himself in links play, having beaten McIlroy at last year's Scottish Open at The Renaissance Club.
"His blend of power, precision and putting is ideal for Shinnecock Hills and he's already made some noise in the majors," Bolton wrote.
While repeating at the U.S. Open is extremely difficult, fans should also consider Spaun at +5500 to win and a solid -135 to finish in the top 40.
