Stoll explained his decision to join the team at his introductory press conference:

The 33-year-old spent the last seven years as a member of the Los Angeles Kings, winning two Stanley Cup titles in 2012 and 2014.

Stoll commented on the decision to leave the organization.

"It was a great meeting, a tough meeting," he said, via Rich Hammond of the Orange County Register. "I have a lot of respect for Dean Lombardi and the Kings organization."

Following his press conference, Stoll issued a statement on his Twitter account thanking the Kings for his time with the team:

Stoll was arrested in Las Vegas in April and charged with felony cocaine possession though it was later dismissed in exchange for a plea deal that included two misdemeanor charges, per ESPN.com's Katie Strang.

"What happened was tough," Stoll said regarding his legal issues, via Helene Elliott of the Los Angeles Times. "I'm not going to go back to that. ... The future is what's exciting."

As part of his plea agreement, Stoll needed to complete 32 hours of community service, which he said he has done. "Personally and professionally, I'm excited about moving on," he said, via Elliott.

In terms of what Stoll can offer the Rangers at this point in his career, Hammond offered an explanation:

"I can play anywhere in the lineup," Stoll said regarding his role, via the Rangers. "I just want to help the team win."

The Rangers have been one of the NHL's best teams over the last four seasons, reaching the Eastern Conference Final twice and Stanley Cup Final once. They only need to make small tweaks to maintain or improve their positioning, so a low-cost player like Stoll fits.

Stoll gets an opportunity to play for one of the league's best teams, rebuild his value after a tumultuous offseason and doesn't have to be a standout piece to make a difference.

It's a win-win move for both sides heading into the 2015-16 season.
