Barracuda Championship 2015: Final Leaderboard Scores, Prize Money Payouts, More
Kyle Reifers turned in a record-setting day at the 2015 Barracuda Championships Sunday, but it still wasn't enough to outlast J.J. Henry in a dramatic two-hole playoff.
Henry finished the tournament with an incredible eagle on the second playoff hole that came on a putt from on the fairway and well off the green. Reifers had an eagle putt of his own to tie Henry, but he pulled it just left and finished his impressive day with a second-place finish.
The PGA Tour passed along a highlight of the clutch shot:
Henry earned some praise from fellow golfer Jordan Spieth in the aftermath of the putt:
While Henry took home the championship, it took an incredible barrage of eagles and a record-setting performance from Reifers just to get to the playoff, as Ben Ross of KOLO-TV noted:
Alas, Henry's clutch putt from off the green was the tournament's lasting image and enough to finish atop the leaderboard.
The complete leaderboard can be found on PGATour.com. Here is a look at the top finishers and the corresponding prize money (prize money figures are courtesy of ESPN.com):
| 1 (won in playoff) | J.J. Henry | 47 | 6 | $558,000 |
| 2 | Kyle Reifers | 47 | 22 | $334,800 |
| 3 | Patrick Rodgers | 46 | 11 | $210,800 |
| 4 | Andres Gonzales | 43 | 10 | $148,800 |
| 5 | David Toms | 42 | 2 | $124,000 |
| 6 | Retief Goosen | 41 | 8 | $111,600 |
| T7 | Derek Fathauer | 40 | 11 | $96,617 |
| T7 | Brendan Steele | 40 | 8 | $96,617 |
| T7 | Steve Flesch | 40 | 6 | $96,617 |
The scoring certainly doesn't look like a normal PGA Tour leaderboard because the Barracuda Championship utilizes Modified Stableford scoring. With this scoring system, players are awarded eight points for a double eagle, five points for an eagle, two points for a birdie and nothing for a par. It also takes away a point for a bogey and three points for a double bogey or worse.
The fact that eagles are worth five points for players encourages aggressive play, and Reifers took full advantage, as the PGA Tour noted:
Reifers finished with three different eagles on the way to an astounding 22 points and came from 22nd place at the start of the round to a near victory. PGA Tour Media noted he joined some fairly impressive company with his showing, while the PGA Tour captured one of those eagles:
Still, Henry went from first place after three rounds to first place after the tournament. While Reifers sent shockwaves throughout the tournament with his eagles, Henry needed a crucial birdie of his own on No. 18 to reach the playoff as well.
No. 18 turned out to be the perfect hole for Henry because the golfers played it two additional times in the playoff and he sank the winning putt.
Elsewhere, David Toms was in second place entering play Sunday but ultimately had to settle for fifth at 42 points overall. He only scored a disappointing two points in the final round, and four bogeys cancelled out any real chance at victory.
The 48-year-old Toms was still a great story throughout the tournament and discussed his standing entering play Sunday, per the Associated Press (via the New York Times):
"Any time at my age at this point in my career to have a chance with a really good round tomorrow, that's really all I can ask for. That's why I came here. So, I'm in that position. Whether I do good or not I'm going to feel comfortable, go out there, and continue to be aggressive when I can and obviously take your licks when you have to.
"
Toms fell short of Reifers and Henry, but he also watched Patrick Rodgers pass him up and finish in third place with a solid 11 points Sunday. Rodgers finished at 46 points overall and notched four birdies, an eagle and two bogeys during his final round.
Rodgers impressed Amanda Balionis of PGATour.com in the process:
While Rodgers certainly played well, the story of the final round was the showdown between Henry and Reifers.
Henry won, but both golfers should walk away with confidence moving forward because of their respective showings. Reifers nearly overcame 21 other golfers on his way to a true Sunday charge, and Henry proved he is more than capable of making clutch shots with championships on the line.
Next time Henry is standing over a critical putt he will likely think back to the one he made from off the green Sunday. It was enough to take home a dramatic championship at the Barracuda Championship.
