Nelly Korda Talks Reaction to Putt to Win U.S. Women's Open, Reveals Tiger Woods and LeBron Messages
Nelly Korda won the U.S. Women's Open on Sunday, though she nearly lipped out the decisive putt on No. 18, which would have sent the tournament into a three-way playoff.
After the fact she spoke about those final moments.
"I was like, "Oh my gosh, why did you leave yourself such a long putt?' Korda told the Golf Channel. "... My heart rate was at like 160. I pulled it, as you can tell. You can barely feel your hands at that moment. I just needed to make contact. ... That reaction too, I was just like, 'Oh my gosh.' It didn't even sink in that I won, I was just like, 'Wow, I hit that putt so bad.'"
She also spoke about the support she received from LeBron James and Tiger Woods and said the latter texted her during the tournament and told her to finish the job on Sunday.
Korda shot eight under for the tournament, besting Charley Hull and Gaby Lopez by a stroke.
