Recap
3 of 3
For the second time in three Triple Crown races, Golden Tempo raced through the pack to win, sprinting past Commandment, Renegade, and Chief Wallabee to put himself, jockey Jose Ortiz Jr., and trainer Cherie DeVaux in the history books.
As he did in the Kentucky Derby, Saturday's winner raced from last place, through the field, and into the annals of horse racing history.
Luis Saez and Powershift set the pace through the first two turns, but the jockey and horse found themselves squeezed against the railing, with nowhere to go. The duo would finish the race in last place.
Race favorite, Renegade, also sprinted through the pack, despite a lackluster start, and finished in the top three.
Speaking to Fox Sports' Tom Rinaldi, DeVaux refused to speculate about whether Golden Tempo would have won the Preakness, instead expressing confidence in her decision not to race him in Laurel, Maryland, and opting to celebrate his victory.
With Saturday's win, she became the first woman trainer to win two Triple Crown races.
