Missouri's Ahmad Hardy Thanks Fans in New Video as He Begins Rehab After Being Shot at Concert
Missouri star running back Ahmad Hardy has begun rehabilitation in Columbia a week and a half after undergoing surgery to treat a gunshot wound he suffered at a concert in Mississippi.
"Hey everyone. I'm back in Columbia, starting the road to my rehab," Hardy said in a video message shared Wednesday by Mizzou football. "I want to thank everybody for all the support and all your prayers, thank everybody for everything.
"And I'm back to the road to success."
Mizzou coach Eli Drinkwitz told ESPN's Marty Smith that Hardy had returned to Columbia as of last Saturday, but remained in the hospital over the weekend for monitoring of his post-surgery recovery.
Drinkwitz added in his latest update Tuesday it would be "several weeks" until Mizzou had a timeline as to when Hardy could return to football activities.
"There's some internal healing that has to occur before we get to any kind of strenuous activities... but the most important thing is he's been discharged from the hospital," Drinkwitz said (h/t KOMU 8 News' Aaron Ladd).
Mizzou football originally announced in a May 11 statement that Hardy "was the victim of a shooting at a concert in Mississippi early Sunday morning and sustained a gunshot wound."
"Ahmad underwent surgery Sunday in Mississippi and is in stable condition," Mizzou football said in the statement.
Police said Hardy had been "shot in his upper leg," WJTV's Kaitlin Howell reported.
The shooting took place after an outdoor rap concert at a biker club in Laurel, Mississippi, according to Jack Fairchilds of the Laurel Leader-Call. Two other victims were involved, per Fairchilds.
Hardy transferred to Missouri from Louisiana-Monroe ahead of the 2025 season. He led the SEC with 1,649 rushing yards in 13 games of his All-American sophomore campaign.
