Quarterfinal Highlights
Notre Dame 15, Johns Hopkins 9
Tied 6-6 at halftime, Johns Hopkins eyed another major upset after taking out reigning national champion Cornell in the previous round, but Notre Dame turned in a dominant second half to reach the Final Four of men's lacrosse tournament.
The Fighting Irish outscored the Blue Jays 9-3 in the second half, and midfielder Will Maheras was a big reason why with both of his goals coming over the final 30 minutes of action:
With four goals and three assists, attacker Josh Yago led the way for the Irish overall, and he helped keep alive Notre Dame's hopes of winning a third national championship in four seasons.
Syracuse 13, North Carolina 11
Attacker Joey Spallina's three goals and three assists lifted Syracuse to a 13-11 win over North Carolina and a spot in the NCAA lacrosse tournament's semifinals on Saturday.
UNC led 6-2 at one point in the first half, but the Orange battled all the way back, and with less than eight minutes remaining in the game, Spallina scored a rocket of a goal to give Cuse an 11-10 lead, which it would never relinquish:
Now, with one more victory, Syracuse will have a chance to play for a national championship for the first time since 2013.
Princeton 14, Penn State 10
Tied 9-9 entering the fourth quarter, top-seeded Princeton took control over the final 15 minutes to beat Penn State and reach the national semifinals.
Tucker Wade scored four goals in the contest and John Dunphey netted the go-ahead marker that put the Tigers ahead for good in the fourth quarter and sent the Nittany Lions packing:
After falling in the quarterfinals last season, Princeton is now just two wins away from its first national title in men's lacrosse since 2001.
Duke 16, Georgetown 6
Duke dominated from start to finish on Sunday, parlaying a 6-1 halftime lead into a 16-6 blowout of Georgetown in the quarterfinals.
Four Blue Devils scored multiple goals, including four by Max Sloat, and Cal Girard had a highlight-reel tally in the second quarter, going coast to coast off a faceoff to extend the Duke lead to 5-1:
While the Blue Devils are the only unseeded team remaining in the field, their firepower was on full display Sunday, and they may have the talent needed to win their first national championship since going back-to-back in 2013 and 2014.
