Race Preview
We know Kentucky Derby winner Golden Tempo will not compete in this year's Preakness, simultaneously dashing hopes for the first Triple Crown winner since 2018 and opening the door for a new competitor to emerge victoriously.
The two-time Preakness-winning trainer, Chad Brown, will enter Iron Honor into the field. Jockey Flavian Pratt will look to improve the horse's finish after a seventh-place run at the Wood Memorial Stakes back in April.
The undefeated Taj Mahal will look to improve upon his dominant 3-0 record in his young career, with trainer Brittany Russell preparing him for the race and her husband, Sheldon, jockeying. A win would make Russell the first female trainer to win the Preakness, giving women a 2-0 record in Triple Crown races this year.
John Velazquez can make history in his own right with a win, in which he would become the oldest jockey to win a Triple Crown race. The Hall of Famer gives any horse he rides a legitimate shot at winning. Such will be the case with Corona de Oro, who will look to show the world how great he is after being the first horse left out of the Kentucky Derby.
