Lane Kiffin Updates Sam Leavitt Injury, Latest on LSU QB's Timeline Ahead of Preseason
LSU transfer quarterback Sam Leavitt missed the team's spring practices after requiring offseason foot surgery, but he's on track to be the starter for the regular season.
As head coach Lane Kiffin told On3, Leavitt should be cleared for full football activities by the summer:
Over the weekend, Leavitt posted a video of his workouts:
The former Arizona State quarterback appeared in just seven games last season due to the injury, though he still threw for 1,628 yards, 10 touchdowns and three interceptions while rushing for 306 yards and another five scores.
He was one of the top players available on the transfer portal after he abruptly decided to leave Arizona State in early January, and after a complicated courting process ultimately ended up at LSU.
The Tigers finished with the top class in this year's transfer portal, per 247Sports, while ESPN ranked their overall offseason No. 2 in the SEC behind only Texas. Leavitt's addition was obviously a huge factor in that regard.
Kiffin's first year on the job comes with plenty of pressure, but Leavitt brings a 16-4 record as a starting quarterback to the table alongside the sort of talent that could make him a first-round NFL draft consideration if he has a big year.
And any lingering concerns about his foot should be a thing of the past come the summer, which is good news for the Tigers.
