New Dillon Brooks Rumors Update Suns Max Contract Buzz After NBA Playoff Exit
Coming off arguably the best season of his NBA career, Dillon Brooks has a chance to cash in with a contract extension from the Phoenix Suns this summer.
Per NBA insider Jake Fischer, the Suns hope to sign Brooks to a new deal that would likely come in lower than the maximum $125 million he could ask for:
"The Suns, I'm told, indeed want to secure a long-term stay for Brooks after his role in establishing them as the West's foremost regular season surprise team, but sources say that Phoenix is also mindful of the fact that an extension would kick in for Brooks' age-32 season since there is currently only one season left on his contract in 2026-27 at $21 million. The max extension that Brooks can command is a four-year deal in the $125 million range but the expectation is that a new deal will not reach that upper threshold."

Suns' Priorities After Elimination ‼️
Brooks still has one year and just under $21 million remaining on the four-year, $80 million contract he originally got in a sign-and-trade that send him to the Houston Rockets in July 2023.
Houston traded Brooks to the Suns last offseason as part of the Kevin Durant deal.
Even though that trade was largely viewed through how it impacted the Rockets' standing in the Western Conference, it turned out to be a terrific move for the Suns. They appeared to be lost in the wilderness coming off an ugly 2024-25 season and no control over their first-round draft pick until 2032.
Brooks and Jalen Green, who was also part of the Durant trade, provided a nice boost around Devin Booker. Brooks averaged a career-high 20.2 points per game during the regular season, while maintaining his strong, physical presence on the defensive end of the court.
The Suns finished tied for ninth in defensive rating this season, a jump of 18 spots from their 2024-25 ranking in that category. Brooks routinely draws the toughest defensive assignment because of his versatility.
Collin Gillespie, who had a breakout year with 12.7 points per game on 40.1 three-point shooting, is the biggest pending free agent for the Suns to address. They are in a good spot financially, as they are projected to be $22.8 million under the first apron.
Brooks having one more year on his current deal does give the Suns some wiggle room if they want to wait on a potential extension, but his value to them this season might make it more beneficial to get something done now as they continue to build around Booker as their main focal point.
