AEW Dynamite Results, Winners, Live Grades, Reaction, Highlights From April 29

Chris MuellerApr 29, 2026

Welcome to Bleacher Report's live coverage of AEW Dynamite on April 29.

Double or Nothing is coming up on May 24, but All Elite Wrestling president Tony Khan has already started planning the show and hyping the various feuds that will make up the card.

This week's show featured four huge title matches. Here's a look at the card:

  • Darby Allin vs. Brody King (AEW World Championship)
  • Kevin Knight vs. MJF (TNT Championship)
  • Kazuchika Okada vs. Ace Austin (International Championship)
  • Divine Dominion vs. Kris Statlander and Hikaru Shida (Women's Tag Team Championships)
  • Cage and Cope vs. RPG Vice
  • Rush in action
  • The Brawling Birds in action
  • Let's take a look at what happened on this week's Dynamite.

Kevin Knight vs. MJF (TNT Championship)

    1 of 8
    AEW

Last time in action: Kevin Knight defeated Claudio Castagnoli (Dynamite, April 15), MJF lost to Darby Allin (Dynamite, April 15)

After a quick video package showing what happened on last week's show, we went live in the arena for MJF's entrance for his opening TNT title bout against Kevin Knight.

After some long introductions that included a huge banner for MJF, the match got underway. He kicked Knight in the gut and took him outside of the ring to start inflicting as much damage as possible by ramming him into the steel steps.

MJF usually comes into his matches playing mind games and trying to play it cool, so it was fun to see him play an angrier version of himself who wasted no time.

These are two of the young stars who could carry AEW for several years to come, so seeing them lock horns felt like what could be the start of a long-term feud that AEW can go back to multiple times.

To the surprise of nobody, this was a very physical encounter. Knight brought the exciting moments with his offense, and MJF garnered a lot of boos with his usual heel tactics. This was a great start to the show and built on their previous encounter back in March.

Knight began selling an injured knee after being pushed off the top rope, so the former world champion focused all of his attacks on that leg. MJF tried to cheat with his diamond ring, but Knight beat him to the punch with a low blow and a rollup to get the win.

MJF continued his assault after the bell until Darby Allin lowered from the rafters like Sting and hit him with a Scorpion Death Drop.

    Result: Knight defeated MJF

    Grade: A-

    Notable Moments and Observations

  • Even if you are one of those people who is not a fan of MJF's shtick, you have to admit he is good at what he does. He knows all the little things to do to get extra heat between big moments.
  • Knight has gotten better with his selling. He takes more time to sell the big spots, which helps make any match feel more competitive than just rushing from move to move.
  • Knight's springboard clothesline was shot form the perfect angle.
  • Brawling Birds vs. Emily Jaye and Jordan Blade

    2 of 8

Last time in action: Brawling Birds defeated Thekla and Marina Shafir (Collision, April 8)

Jamie Hayter and Alex Windsor were in action against Emily Jaye and Jordan Blade, two wrestlers from the indie scene.

This was little more than an excuse to give Hayter and Windsor a decisive win. The other team didn't get in a single shred of offense before they were beaten in under two minutes.

If you ever want to show someone a squash match, make it this one. It was the definition of the word, but giving The Brawling Birds more ring time is never a bad thing.

    Result: The Brawling Birds won

    Grade: Incomplete

    Notable Moments and Observations

  • Allin offered Knight a title shot for next week if he survives King tonight.
  • Renee Paquette sounded like she was either sick or lost her voice during a backstage interview.
  • Blade had unique gear and a cool look.
  • Kazuchika Okada vs. Ace Austin (International Championship)

    3 of 8

Last time in action: Kazuchika Okada lost to The Young Bucks (Dynasty), Ace Austin lost to Ciampa (Collision, March 28)

Kazuchika Okada was getting a nice reaction for his entrance until Don Callis came out to join him for his match against Ace Austin for the international title.

This was the biggest opportunity Austin has had since coming to AEW, and despite losing most of his matches on AEW TV, he has been winning most of his ROH outings.

The Rainmaker cornered him and stomped him into the match right away. He had a significant height and power advantage, and he made sure Austin knew it.

This wasn't exactly a David vs. Goliath situation, but it was close. Austin was definitely the physical underdog, but he did a good job using his offense to make himself look like a potential threat at times.

However, the ending of this match was a foregone conclusion. AEW is not about to change a title a few weeks before it's set to be defended at a PPV in a long-running storyline that is finally going to move forward.

Okada and Konosuke Takeshita's feud has been building too long to take the belt away from it, but the predictable ending didn't stop them from putting on an entertaining show for the crowd.

After hitting a Tombstone, Okada finished Austin off with his Rainmaker clothesline to retain his title.

    Result: Okada defeated Austin

    Grade: B

    Notable Moments and Observations

  • Thekla has grown into one of the most entertaining people in AEW. Her backstage promo was quick but great.
  • Austin's springboard leg drop looked great.
  • Okada being petty is never going to stop being funny. He can be a good babyface, but he feels much more natural as a heel.
  • The dropkick from Okada was nasty.

Cage and Cope vs. RPG Vice

    4 of 8

Last time in action: RPG Vice and Mark Davis defeated TMDK (ROH, April 6), Cage and Cope lost to FTR (Dynasty)

Will Ospreay had a video with The Death Riders. He appears to have taken them up on their offer to turn him into a more dangerous competitor.

For the first time on Dynamite, Adam Copeland and Christian Cage teamed up for a tag match against Rocky Romero and Trent Beretta.

FTR came out to watch from ringside while Stokely Hathaway joined the commentary team. Cage and Romero started with a pretty standard opening sequence before Copeland tagged for a double-team spot.

The Conglomeration showed up in the crowd and got into a fight with FTR and Stokely while RPG Vice had Cage on defense.

The chaos in the middle injected some energy into this bout, but the four guys in the ring didn't really need it to make this a fun match. RPG Vice is a great tag team, and the skills of Cope and Cage have been documented for the past few decades, so they found their groove quickly.

Cage seemed to do most of the heavy lifting in the ring while Copeland served as the hot tag. Trent ended up taking the pin for his team after a Spear from Copeland.

Result: Cage and Cope defeated RPG Vice

    Grade: B-

    Notable Moments and Observations

  • The video package for Swerve Strickland was cool.
  • Taz said his sunglasses were stolen on his plane ride and that is why he didn't have them on for once.
  • Cage had a brace on his forearm.
  • Divine Dominion vs. Shida and Statlander (Women's Tag Team Championships)

    5 of 8

Last time in action: Divine Dominion defeated Hyan and Maya World (Dynasty), Kris Statlander and Hikaru Shida defeated two local talents (Collision, April 16)

Kris Statlander and Hikaru Shida had their biggest match since becoming a team when they challenged Megan Bayne and Lena Kross for the tag titles.

Shida got started for her team. She was giving up the most size in this bout, she it allowed her to fall into the role of an underdog against her much stronger opponents.

This allowed Stat to play the heavy hitter when the time was right for a tag. Statlander actually stopped Shida from cheating with her kendo stick at one point, which led to a breakdown in communication between the challengers.

This was a hard-fought match, but it felt like they were missing something. It's hard to pinpoint what it was. It might have been the pace that did not allow for much selling, but all four competitors still put in some good work.

The fight went back-and-forth, but much like the international title bout, this outcome felt set in stone before the bell rang. Kross and Bayne retained the titles by pinning Shida.

Result: Divine Dominion defeated Statlander and Shida

    Grade: B-

    Notable Moments and Observations

  • Shida playing a babyface who is likely going to turn heel soon has been interesting to watch. It's still not clear if she will be good as a heel yet.
  • It looked like Stat was supposed to counter a double suplex with a double neckbreaker, but she lost her footing on the way down.
  • The double hurricanrana is one of the most illogical moves in a business full of stuff that makes no sense.
  • Rush vs. Steven Fuente

    6 of 8

Last time in action: Rush defeated Adam Priest (Collision, April 22)

Rush had a match this week against a local talent named Steven Fuente. El Toro Blanco punched his opponent right in the mouth a split second before the bell rang.

The former ROH world champion destroyed his opponent at ringside before bringing him back into the ring. This was more of a one-way mauling than a wrestling match, which can also be fun sometimes.

As expected, Rush picked up an easy squash win over a young man who was hopefully paid for each strike he had to endure.

    Result: Rush won

    Grade: Incomplete

Darby Allin vs. Brody King (Men's World Heavyweight Championship)

    7 of 8

Last time in action: Darby Allin defeated Tommaso Ciampa (Dynamite, April 22), Brody King defeated Lio Rush (Dynamite, April 22)

For the third week in a row, we got a men's world title bout on Dynamite featuring Darby Allin. This time, his challenger was Brody King.

They met to shake hands in the middle of the ring before Allin ran at King to hit a dropkick. The powerhouse quickly recovered and started throwing the champion around like it was nothing.

These two have never had a slow, methodical wrestling match, and this time was no different. They went from 0-60 immediately and did not slow down. Both men speak the same language of violence, so their encounters are always entertaining.

Allin hit a lot of his usual high-risk stuff, and King did a great job protecting him from disaster. One of the reasons they work so well together is how much their styles complement each other.

After a few big spots outside the ring, Allin managed to retain his title clean by pinning King. Knight looked on from the crowd as the champion and challenger showed each other some respect after it was over.

    Result: Allin defeated King

    Grade: B+

    Notable Moments and Observations

  • Samoa Joe led a backstage promo for The Opps.
  • The way Allin bounced off King when he went for a suicide dive was wild. It looked like their heads collided and King just took it and barked into the camera.
  • Allin was thrown out of the ring and he hit a camera on the way down.
  • The Final Word

    8 of 8

This week's Dynamite felt like a great mix of action and storyline development as we head into the buildup for Double or Nothing.

Two squash matches are never ideal, but the rest of the show made up for it with four entertaining title bouts and some other enjoyable moments.

This story with Ospreay and The Death Riders has taken a turn, and it's going to be interesting to see how it all plays out.

The standout match from the week was MJF vs. Knight. That is a combination AEW needs to revisit from time to time because they work so well together.

    Grade: B+
