Anthony Edwards Injury Update, Latest Rumors on Wolves Star's Return Timeline Ahead of Spurs Series
Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards is eyeing a return to the court at some point during his team's second-round NBA Playoff series against Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs.
According to The Athletic's Jon Krawczynski, "Edwards has been doing around-the-clock treatment on his injured left knee, and he has told teammates he plans on returning at some point in the series."
Krawczynski added:
"Team sources have toldĀ The AthleticĀ that Edwards has been communicating to teammates his plans to join them at some point in this series. The teams play every other day through the first five potential games of the series. There will be two days off between Games 5 and 6 if that is necessary. Game 2 is Wednesday in San Antonio. The series shifts to Minnesota for Game 3 on Friday and Game 4 on Sunday."
Edwards suffered a left knee injury late in the second quarter of a 112-96 Game 4 win over the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the NBA Playoffs.
The injury occurred after Edwards made knee-on-knee contact while guarding Nuggets forward Cam Johnson.
He was helped off the court and later ruled out for the remainder of the game.
Edwards had recorded five points on 1-for-8 shooting while adding three rebounds in 18 minutes before suffering his injury.
He had been playing through runner's knee in his right knee, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.
His exit from Game 4 came after Charania reported the Wolves' other starting guard, Donte DiVincenzo, would miss the rest of the postseason with a torn right Achilles tendon.
Edwards averaged 28.8 points, five rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.4 steals per game through 61 games for the Wolves this season.
The Wolves star averaged 23 points and eight rebounds through the first four games of the opening round.
He and DiVincenzo were key to Minnesota's push to recover from a Game 1 loss and win two straight games en route to a first-round series victory.
The Timberwolves will need to see depth guards like Mike Conley step up to help out the team's shorthanded backcourt when the series against the Spurs begins on Monday.
