Zimbabwe vs. New Zealand: Winners and Losers from 3rd ODI

Antoinette MullerAug 7, 2015

New Zealand bounced back from losing the opening ODI against Zimbabwe to win the series 2-1. A 38-run win in the third and final ODI steered the Black Caps to a series victory.

A good effort with the bat from Kane Williamson and some crafty bowling from Mitchell McClenaghan helped New Zealand to victory, as Zimbabwe could only respond to New Zealand's 273 runs with 235 of their own.

We've picked some winners and losers from the last match. Add yours in the comments.

Winner: Kane Williamson

1 of 6

After hitting 97 in the first innings, Kane Williamson had another great outing against Zimbabwe on Friday. With his team-mates struggling a bit, Williamson hit 90 off 109 to help propel New Zealand to 273-6 in their 50 overs.

Loser: Zimbabwe's Consistency

2 of 6

Zimbabwe's bowlers have struggled this series. Although none of them have bowled awfully, they have looked stuck for plans. That improved slightly on Friday, but eight wides out of 10 extras isn't exactly great.

Winner: Graeme Cremer

3 of 6

Graeme Cremer was Zimbabwe's most successful bowler on Friday, with figures of 10-0-44-3. Some crafty bowling from Cremer helped Zimbabwe put the screws on New Zealand and ensured that the Black Caps never quite settled.

Loser: Hamilton Masakadza

4 of 6

Although Hamilton Masakadza scored a steady 57 off 71, he completely gave his wicket away when he pulled a terrible short ball straight to the man in the deep. He batted so well for most of his innings, but getting out when his team really needed him to bat through lands him on the losers list.

Loser: Sean Williams

5 of 6

Like Hamilton Masakadza, Sean Williams looked to be going along smoothly. But, like Masakadza, Williams holed out in the deep and was dismissed for 63 off 62. In fairness to Williams, he managed to stick around until the 46th over, and Zimbabwe were already on the ropes by the time he holed out. Williams was probably trying to win it all on his own, but it’s still disappointing.

Winner: Mitchell McClenaghan

6 of 6

While two of his wickets were tailenders, Mitchell McClenaghan deserves a nod for his accurate bowling. He is very good at swinging and seaming the ball and couldn't have picked a better time to find his form. With a series against South Africa looming, McClenaghan will have a field day on the Proteas' winter pitches.
