Max Homa Responds to Trending Sergio Garcia Video, Says Breaking Clubs Is 'Very Spoiled' Behavior
Max Homa apparently wasn't happy to see Sergio Garcia get issued the Masters Tournament's first code-of-conduct warning after breaking his driver during his final round at Augusta National last weekend.
Homa was asked about the policy during a Wednesday press conference ahead of this weekend's RBC Heritage on South Carolina's Hilton Head Island.
"I don't— not to say I've never done it. I don't like when people break clubs," Homa said around the 13:00 mark of his press conference. "I don't like when people beat up the golf course, because we deal with it, and I think that breaking clubs makes us look very, very spoiled.
"I try my absolute best not to do it, and when it does happen, as far as slamming a tee box, I am very upset with myself, because we're very lucky to play this game where we do, and I think it is a bad look. But again, this is a very frustrating game, and it happens."
Garcia's drive on the second hole of Round 4 was still in the air Sunday when he took multiple swings at the turf before hitting and breaking his driver against a cooler.
Garcia said after the round he's been frustrated "through the year." He later apologized for his actions in a statement posted Tuesday to social media.
Garcia will play this week at a LIV Golf tournament in Mexico City after his 50th-place finish at Augusta National, while Homa is heading into the RBC Heritage after tying for ninth behind defending champion Rory McIlroy.
Homa is looking to bounce back after finishing 70th at last year's tournament in what was he described as an overall "disappointing" 2025 season.
