Steph Curry Breaks Silence on Knee Injury, Reveals 'Reason I Want to Come Back' to Warriors

Andrew PetersApr 1, 2026

Stephen Curry has plenty of reasons to remain sidelined for the rest of the season, but the Golden State Warriors star plans to return from his knee injury soon.

He told ESPN's Anthony Slater that part of the reason is to help boost morale around the organization amid a rough season.

"I just hope there's something at the end (of the turbulence) that makes it all worth it," he said. "That's part of the reason I want to come back."

Curry has been sidelined since Jan. 30 because of an injury called "runner's knee," which causes swelling and pain around the kneecap. The Athletic's Sam Amick and Nick Friedell reported Tuesday that Curry is eyeing Sunday's game against the Houston Rockets as a possible return date.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr said the team would evaluate Curry's readiness after a five-on-five scrimmage on Tuesday.

"We got to see how he responds to the scrimmage," Kerr said. "And then we'll just take it day by day. … It's just a progression from here. If he's feeling well, we'll scrimmage again and we'll just kinda go from there."

The Warriors are currently sitting in 10th place in the West at 36-39, but they've already secured a spot in the play-in tournament. While Curry's potential return could at least get Golden State through the play-in, it's hard to imagine the Dubs have what it takes to make a Finals run, considering his co-star, Jimmy Butler, is out for the year.

Nonetheless, the boost that Curry provides to the team's morale is second to none. Forward Gui Santos described how different the scrimmage felt with Curry on the court on Tuesday.

"It's amazing, man, just to have him out there with us, it's always great. We have a lot more confidence when we have a guy like Steph out on the court, no doubt about it," Santos told reporters. "I hope he's out there with us soon, it's going to be great."
