Coming off his victory and successful title defense against "Hangman" Adam Page in a Texas Death Match at Revolution, it wasn't long before MJF saw a new challenger emerge for the AEW world title.
On the March 25 edition of Dynamite, Omega and Swerve Strickland clashed with some huge stakes hanging in the balance. Strickland put his No. 1 contendership for the AEW World Championship on the line, while Omega wagered his status as one of AEW's executive vice presidents.
Omega was victorious, earning him the title of No. 1 contender, while also getting revenge on Swerve for attacking him and temporarily putting him on the shelf in February.
Following his win over Strickland, Omega confronted MJF and expressed his desire to vie for the AEW world title at Dynasty in Vancouver, and MJF accepted the request.
However, as he so often does, MJF used the situation as an opportunity to try to get inside his opponent's head and under their skin, as he decided against shaking Omega's hand.
Dynasty marked only the second-ever singles match between MJF and Omega despite them being two of the most important figures in the history of AEW.
Their first meeting occurred on the Oct. 28, 2023, edition of Dynamite, and it saw MJF beat Omega to cement his status as the longest-reigning AEW world champion of all time.
Omega was marred by injuries at the time, though, and it wasn't long after that he took a yearlong hiatus from the ring.
While he seems to be far healthier now, it wasn't enough to get Omega over the top, as MJF got the better of him again at Dynasty.
