Curt Cignetti Says Indiana WR Nick Marsh Got 'Ripped' for Wearing Gold Cleats to Practice
After transferring from Michigan State, it didn't take long for Indiana wide receiver Nick Marsh to get chewed out by his new head coach.
Hoosiers head coach Curt Cignetti called out Marsh for his choice of attire during the team's first spring practice on Thursday, telling reporters that the wideout got his "ass ripped" for wearing gold cleats.
"I didn't love those gold shoes he came out in today. He learned what getting your ass ripped is all about," Cignetti said. "I don't know if he got much of that at Michigan State."
Despite getting called out by Cignetti before practice, Marsh still turned some heads with impressive plays, including a one-handed catch on a ball thrown behind him.
In two years at Michigan State, Marsh racked up 100 catches for 1,311 yards and nine touchdowns. At 6'3" and 203 pounds, he's a physical receiver who will provide a big target on the outside for TCU transfer quarterback Josh Hoover, who is expected to succeed 2025 Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza as Indiana's starting signal-caller in 2026.
"A physical X receiver who thrives in traffic and wins through contact, the Detroit native is also difficult to bring down after the catch, showing a natural ability to run through tackles and finish plays," 247Sports national recruiting analyst Cooper Petagna wrote of Marsh after he entered the transfer portal. "Projects as an immediate impact option with the versatility to operate as a true No. 1 or a high-end 1A at the Power Four level, while carrying early Day 2 NFL upside."
Cignetti has already shown that he can find hidden gems in the transfer portal and bring out the best in them, so Marsh will certainly benefit from his tutelage this season, even if he gets chewed out a few more times.
