Where Will Mohamed Salah Go Next? Top Potential Destinations After Liverpool Departure

Leo CollisMar 25, 2026

All epic tales eventually come to an end, and Mohamed Salah has announced his final Liverpool chapter.

The 33-year-old revealed on Tuesday that he will leave the club at the conclusion of the season, drawing a line under a remarkable nine-year stint at Anfield.

In that time, he has won two Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League, the FA Cup, two League Cups, the FIFA Club World Cup, and the UEFA Super Cup. He could yet add to that tally with an FA Cup or Champions League title.

He sits third in the Reds' all-time top-scorer list with 255 goals in 435 appearances, with more games left to boost that total, and has claimed four Premier League Golden Boot awards.

He was instrumental in Liverpool's 2024-25 Premier League title triumph, scoring 29 goals and providing 18 assists. In short, his influence on the team has been huge, and he will comfortably sit among the greats who have graced the red half of Merseyside.

But just because his Liverpool tenure is ending doesn't mean his career is grinding to a halt. Salah has been lauded for his elite fitness levels and dedication to the game over the years, and he'll want to prolong his time on the pitch for as long as possible.

Ahead, we've identified six possible landing spots for the Egyptian King to continue his reign.

Saudi Pro League

Manchester United v Liverpool - Premier League

As soon as teams from the Saudi Pro League started throwing money around like it was going out of style—opening the floodgates with a move for Cristiano Ronaldo in 2022—Salah was tipped to make a switch to the Middle East.

Of course, the Liverpool board dug in its heels and kept the player on side, offering him big money to ensure his talents remained at Anfield—a stance that proved essential to the club's record-equalling 20th English top-flight title.

Now, with both club and player agreeing it's time to move on, the long-touted move could finally come to fruition.

A geopolitical wrench has been thrown into the situation, with the U.S. and Israel launching attacks on Iran and sharply escalating tensions across the Middle East. Iran has responded with missile and drone strikes on Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states that host U.S. military assets, including incidents targeting sites in the capital, Riyadh, as reported by Al Jazeera.

With that said, perhaps joining the Saudi Pro League isn't as appealing as it once appeared, but clubs in the division will still be trying their hardest to tempt Salah.

Orlando City SC Unveils New Signage Antoine Griezmann

Atletico Madrid's Antoine Griezmann has just announced his impending switch to MLS side Orlando City. Could Salah be the next big name to move Stateside?

San Diego FC has been heavily tipped as a likely contender for his services, with founding partner and chairman Mohamed Mansour, a British-Egyptian entrepreneur, undoubtedly keen to bring his compatriot on board.

But Chicago Fire could be a notable participant in the Salah sweepstakes, having attempted to court Kevin De Bruyne and Neymar in recent years.

There will surely be some roster gymnastics from multiple teams in efforts to bring Salah to the U.S., and considering the league's notoriety for giving aging stars one last big move as their careers wind down, this simply can't be ruled out.

AS Roma

After a move from Basel to Chelsea in 2014 didn't work out quite as well as the then-21-year-old would have hoped, Salah had to rebuild his reputation.

First, he had a successful loan spell with Fiorentina, scoring 9 goals and adding 4 assists in 26 games.

Serie A seemed to be doing him a world of good, and Roma came knocking next, first signing him on a season-long loan before making the switch permanent in 2016.

In 83 games for the Giallorossi, Salah scored 34 goals and created 21 more, fully putting him back on the radar of Europe's elite clubs.

Of course, the rest is history. But perhaps Salah will want to return to Roma to repay the club that effectively revitalised his career.

The only thing the side from the Italian capital will have to worry about is Salah's wage demands, but without needing to pay a transfer fee, it's more likely that they could make it happen.

It would be a romantic conclusion to the player's career, but he might have eyes on more silverware, and other clubs would be better suited to bolster his trophy cabinet.

Juventus

If a return to Roma doesn't feel like a good fit, Juventus could be a better option.

The club is steadily rebuilding under Luciano Spalletti after a period of inactivity, and the Old Lady has previously used the transfer market to sign aging superstars. Coincidentally, Cristiano Ronaldo was 33, like Salah, when he joined in 2018.

Salah's rise to stardom in Italy happened under the watch of Spalletti, a man he called "the best coach he's ever had."

Spalletti's Scudetto win with Napoli in 2022-23 was partially built on the performances of another tricky winger, as Khvicha Kvaratskhelia grabbed 12 goals and 13 assists on the way to title glory.

Granted, Salah is at the other end of the age spectrum in football career terms, but similar tactics could be employed to get Juventus back to the top of Italian football.

Napoli

Speaking of Napoli, the Partenopei might be keen on a Salah swoop.

Antonio Conte has stocked his squad with former Premier League players, including Kevin De Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku, Scott McTominay, Rasmus Hojlund, and Billy Gilmour.

With the Egyptian on the market, Conte could be tempted to again grab talent from his old stomping ground.

On the right wing, David Neres is often injured and not quite at the elite standard he was expected to reach in the early days of his career. Salah would provide an upgrade if the slower pace of Italian football allows him to recapture his former levels.

Paris Saint-Germain

Luis Enrique has shifted Paris Saint-Germain away from the club's previous model of signing elite players and putting little focus on the structure of the rest of the team.

However, chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi might see an opportunity to bring in a player he has previously spoken highly of.

"I love Salah, also because he came from our part of the world," he told reporters at the Club World Cup draw in 2024, per Goal. "I am very proud of him, honestly, for what he's done in the Premier League with Liverpool. And I have big respect for him and for Liverpool. So we never talked to him. Respect Liverpool and respect the player—he has a contract with Liverpool and we never talked to him."

In terms of silverware, it's almost guaranteed in the French capital, so the Egyptian could see a move across the channel as a way to expand on his legacy while enjoying a hefty salary.
