Giannis Injury Return Timeline Update, Star Reportedly Refusing Bucks' Request to Shut Him Down
Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo is aiming to return to the court this season, while the team has another plan in mind, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.
Charania reported Wednesday the Bucks "want Giannis Antetokounmpo to shut down for the remainder of the season after his latest injury and the team's playoff chances dwindled." However, he has "refused" that request.

How NBA Playoffs Exposing Terrible Trades and Contracts 😬
Antetokounmpo previously suffered a left knee hyperextension and bone bruise in the third quarter of a matchup with the Indiana Pacers last Sunday.
Two days later, Charania reported that the two-time MVP would be re-evaluated in one week.
Antetokounmpo has been plagued by injuries throughout his 2025-26 campaign, missing over a month due to a right calf strain. Calf issues also sidelined him for an eight-game stretch from Dec. 5 through Dec. 26.
While Antetokounmpo has never played in fewer than 61 contests across a full season, he'll be setting a new career-low for games played this year.
The Bucks have struggled to find much consistency with the 10-time All-Star in and out of their lineup, currently sitting at 11th in the Eastern Conference standings with a 28-40 record.
Antetokounmpo has remained an imposing two-way force when healthy, though.
He's averaged 27.6 points, 9.8 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 0.9 steals per game while shooting 62.4 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from three-point territory this season.
Charania's report is fairly straightforward about how Milwaukee views its postseason odds. Having Antetokounmpo suffer a serious injury when there's nothing to play for would be a disaster.
The fact he's pushing back against the team provides another storyline with his long-term future a steady source of speculation.
