Preview

The event kicks off with the celebrity game Friday night at 7 p.m. PT. Each side features one ringer, Ryan Hollins for ESPNLA and Corey Maggette for Hollywood, but otherwise the rosters are populated by amateur ballers.

While everybody will have their own favorite, look out for Jerry Ferrara. He's spent plenty of time with athletes, including LeBron James, on the Entourage set. Maybe some of their athletic prowess rubbed off on him. ESPN Los Angeles provided his player profile:

The real action kicks off Saturday morning at 8 a.m. PT as the three-on-three tournaments get underway. As with most similar events, there's controlled chaos once play starts with players in constant motion going from game to game. That's especially true in one with as many teams as L.A.

Dunking also takes center stage on Day 2. There are two separate competitions, one for amateurs before the top dunkers show off their skills at 2 p.m. PT. It wouldn't be a surprise if they are able to outshine some of the recent NBA Slam Dunk Contests, which have lost a lot of luster.

Play in the three-on-three tournaments resumes at 8 a.m. PT on Sunday morning. It leads up to the championship games during the afternoon. Although plenty of champions will be crowned, the big three are Men's Elite, Men's Elite Under Six Feet and Women's Elite.

The other Day 3 events include a three-point shooting contest and a skills competition. So it's basically like the NBA's All-Star Weekend, but for the weekend warriors rather than the world's top basketball players.

All told, the event has steadily grown over the past seven years, and that trend should continue as it gains more nationwide attention. Along with taking place in L.A., the extra activities that go along with the games make it a special stop for competitive three-on-three players.

The celebrity game will probably generate most of the attention, but the tournament finals will feature a higher level of play Sunday.
